There was a heavy sigh released from her lips. She looked forth at the pavement but had hard time breathing. The bandage around her waist was put with light force and a professional outlook. She really hated the medics. They hadn’t allowed her to even ride today! You have to wait at least two days until you’ll be allowed to even consider riding. She grunted heavily and walked towards the fence. A large ebonite mare watched her with a wary and curious look. The star to her injury, or rather to her accident. Silent Silhouette didn’t really fit her name because Armelia couldn’t understand that the mare was silent. Silly was usually neighing furiously or snorting, always a sound emitting from her soft luscious lips. The female shook her head but smiled; after two days had passed she was so going to start the training. The smile quickly faded however, she missed Matt, she missed him bad as well but she hadn’t taken the chance to meet his mare. She wouldn’t know how she reacted on a flaxen equine. She emitted a sigh, eyes of emerald meeting amber were slowly closing when she felt a presence beside her. The Friesian mix snorted and pawed the ground, her ears laying flat, Alto too got annoyed, why was someone bothering her now?
Eyes were about to shoot a glare at the male but it easily faded seeing him. No, it couldn’t be. The chocolate colored eyes were laid amused upon her and he chuckled lightly. Wow Cat, you’ve grown. You’re not a brat anymore. The male looked at her completely amused by his sister just jaw dropping at her older brother. She felt others stare and shut her mouth blushing feverishly until she dared speak. Ran, what…? What are you doing here? What about mother? She spoke without thinking but noticed how his expression changed, they hadn’t seen each other for thirteen years and she could still easily notice his expressions. They were really siblings after all. I’ll tell you all you want to know later ok? Now, how has mo duinne been without her handsome older brother? She listened to his joking about she being his and had to smile, it was the same old Ran that was for sure. The female nodded her agreement to his first statement but had to shake her head, oh she had done pretty fine without him, hadn’t she? She was surviving after all and were already owning two horses of her own, though she wasn’t allowed to ride for two days which annoyed her completely.
Looking up at her brother she noticed how handsome he was but nonetheless hugged him not bothering what people might think. Breaking apart from the affection they started walking back into the barn but didn’t hold hands. But Adrian listened to what Armelia was talking, snorting with her now and then but laughed seeing how annoyed she was getting the notice to be banned from horse riding. She hated that. But the large male knew better and leaned against Jumpers stall. The cobber colored mare took out her massive head and nudged him affectionately. Armelia almost drooled over the eighteen handed tall mare. She’s absolutely gorgeous. How did you get her? And Six is so handsome. I envy you. The male smiled proudly and patted his mare as well as his thoroughbred stallion mix. Adrian looked over the two equines until he decided to speak and told her a little about each horse. He was fascinated by her reactions and expressions, Armelia had always had this way to impress people because she was completely different. He was still amazed that she had no sense of what had happened at home. And he wasn’t looking forward to telling her about her mother’s suicide. He almost shivered by the thought but hid it well from the seventeen year old, the last thing he needed right now was her to freak out.
She looked at the male curiously until grinning softly and pointed to her own stallion. Twister muffled a snort and nudged her when she arrived to his stall but ignored Adrian completely. He is my baby, as well as the Friesian outside, both are TAEA horses but I love them. I also met a couple of peoples here, they’re really nice here. The male looked at her suspiciously. She blushed and giggled a lot, was she in love? He leaned against her, a smirk on his lips while Armelia blushed and looked away a little. W-W-What? She blushed deeper as he looked in her eyes until he pulled back not noticing the one standing watching them. Whose the guy that thinks he is good enough for yah? I want to meet him mo duinne. She huffed at her brother and punched him lightly. Sh! People might hear you! I won’t tell you, I won’t, not in a million years. She poked out her tongue and saw her brother cracking up laughing softly until he shook his head at her. I can’t believe you Cat, you’re too hilarious! You’re still the same. I’ve missed the old days. She smiled a little but decided not to give him and rolled her eyes instead still unaware of being watched by someone who might misunderstand the whole situation, because sister-brother-relationships are usually misunderstood after all. Shut up Alex! The male cracked up even more and Alto couldn’t help it but blush feverishly at her brother laughing.

Matt really hadn't expected to adopt a dog. His parents had come home one day with a well-mannered, energetic, and rather large black and white dog that took an instant liking to Matt. He hadn't particularly liked dogs before, although he knew both of his parents did, but this dog was different. "His name's Soldier Boy," his mother had told him with a grin as the big Great Dane mix jumped up and put his massive paws on the teenage boy's shoulders.
Since he met Soldier Boy, whom he nicknamed Soldier, the two had been inseparable. He willingly took responsibility for the dog, walking him regularly, feeding him, playing with him, everything his parents asked of him and more. The dog slept with him in his bed, rode with him in the car, and would pine when Matt went anywhere without him. The two were like a match made in heaven.
The same could be said, perhaps, for Matt and Armelia. He couldn't stop thinking about her, no matter how hard he tried, and she invaded his every waking moment. She was even in his dreams; he couldn't get away from her. Not that he wanted to, but he had never had a problem before where a girl was the only thing on his mind. Yet, here he was, driving along with Soldier in the seat next to him and the music as loud as can be...only he was hardly thinking about the road, the music, or even Soldier Boy. The big dog put his head on his master's shoulder and looked at him with eyes that were understanding and loving. Matt chuckled a little and rubbed the affectionate dog's head, slowing down his speedy little car to turn into the driveway of Southern Blues Stables. "Thanks, buddy, but I'm alright," he said to reassure the male dog.
Now Matt had to go to the stables, it was all a part of his community service or something, but now he had a reason to want to go. Armelia. Alto. Whichever name he used for her, it still brought the same images; kissing in the field, galloping headlong through the rain, cuddling under a blanket together after...and more. Dammit, he was doing it again. Matt turned down the music as his car came down the driveway, knowing full well that horses disliked loud noises. The car slid to a smooth stop just outside the barn and he cut the engine. Just as he was about to get out of the car, he saw her. His heart jumped a little as he realized she was hugging an older guy and then walking into the barn with him like they were best friends.
It took him a moment to calm down, but he knew if he got out of the car now, he wouldn't stop to ask questions. Whoever had been hugging Alto would get the beating of his life...but then Matt would have to go to jail. Soldier whined softly and put his head on Matt's knee, helping to distract him briefly and calm down. "How did I fall so hard, Soldier? She's with another guy, and I'm so damn jealous!" He slammed his fist on the wheel of his car before taking another deep breath. Soldier whined again and nudged him, urging him towards the door. "Alright, alright." He opened the door and got out slowly, containing his anger with quite a bit of effort. Soldier jumped out of the car after him and he locked the doors, heading towards the barn after Alto and that other guy. At least she hadn't been holding hands with him.
He caught up to them and stood there for a minute, hardly believing what he was hearing and seeing. The guy was leaning over Alto and she was blushing hard, as she had with him. Matt's jaw locked and his fists balled, despite the nudgings of his large dog. The old days? Mo duinne? Cat? Pet names, times before, his mind immediately jumped to past boyfriend. He couldn't say anything. If he said anything, it would come out wrong, angry, and she would hate him or something. What did it matter anyway? She'd been playing him the whole time and he'd fallen for it. He had to say something. "I can't believe you. I just can't," he growled through a clenched jaw, resisting the urge to smash 'Alex' in the face. That would be so satisfying.
Matt brushed by 'Alex' angrily, deliberately hitting the other male's shoulder with his own. Soldier's claws clicked on the barn floor as Matt's strides carried him quickly and furiously away from the girl who had taken his heart and used it. Like so many others...only this time had been different. He didn't care anymore, though, she could get a boyfriend for all he cared. Right now, he had to see to his horse. Although he still didn't know exactly what that meant...he'd been taught how to care for other horses, clean stalls, put feed in buckets and water, but never how to groom a horse. Well, if it would take his mind off the two flirting over their by their horses, he would learn.

She somehow realized how dark the world was when the voice entered her ears. oh no! He didn’t? But yes, Matt did what she had imagined. Bumping into her brother. Her jaw dropped as she suddenly understood the whole misunderstanding, their nicknames and the talking about the old days. But she hadn’t thought that he had come, wait. She had noticed a car hadn’t she? D.rn! How could she be so stupid! Adrian growled as well and turned around without being concerned of what his sister was going to say. Hey you! Got any problems pretty boy? His chocolate eyes showed mischief as he grinned rather cocky. Armelia however clenched her fist and looked away; she didn’t know what to say. She was ashamed that she hadn’t made it clear she was single, but she wasn’t ashamed of her brother. She hadn’t even known that he was coming here, until a couple of minutes ago. Twister nudged her with his massive and elegant ebonite head, his silky lips pursuing her to hold on and tell them the real deal until h.ll broke loose. Her brother had after all, a bad temper male just like Matt. Her eyes went from the males until she could finally decide on what to do.
Second thoughts was never something that Armelia was good with because she just jumped into the whole scene. Her eyes noticed that Alex was about to throw a punch but she went in front just as he lead his hand in the move. She didn’t smile no, she could feel the grace of his fist as he tried to make it go past her because he got surprised by her actions. Only a seconds wobbling was everything, she’d felt worse at least. Her emerald and amber eyes were cold but gentle not showing anything and her brother showed his surprise completely. Sis! What are you doing? You never protect other guys, not once, what’s different with this one? He crossed his arms and huffed unpleased by her actions, not far from him was his thoroughbred stallion huffing as well. What a pair they were, but Armelia didn’t even flinch. She looked at her brother with a calm nerve but spoke gently still watching him. Because he didn’t mean it. The answer clearly didn’t please Adrian as the male growled letting out curses in their Gaelic tone which surprised Armelia, she had never accepted that her older brother curses so why now? A sound of a slap was easily heard in the stable and would probably displease Amy but Armelia didn’t really care right now.
How could she even be blaming Matt if he was completely surprised. But if he was listening right now she hoped he would get the words with him. Adrian Alexander Ainsworth! You may be two years older then me but you have no right at cursing! You know I hate it! He cracked up again and she blushed shaking her head but walked out of the barn sighing a little. She couldn’t even remember if she had given him her last name. Why was it so confusing? She…She loved him! She knew that, but wouldn’t show the tears in her eyes. Leaning on a fence the female sighed and heard a snuffling not far away. Looking towards the sound of horses the sight made everything go up. So much alike! Too alike! Color! I need to throw up. She went to the side and let it up as much as she could and sat down a little further away from her spot. She was a weakling after all. If anything she was probably worse, she just tried to make herself strong that was all. But her stomach hurt because of the coughing, ah well she just hoped her brother wouldn’t go punching around other people and closed her eyes. What had she really done? She probably looked like a player when it was just a sibling relationship; well many people thought of sibling as an old married couple no wonder people mistook them from being a pair.
But Adrian on the other hand was smiling a tad and shook his head, he looked however to the male with his dark eyes. So this was it huh? Well he seemed strong enough but Adrian never really accepted any guys as his sister’s boyfriend. But she would completely kill him if he didn’t try; she really had him wrapped around her little finger didn’t she? He sighed and scratched the back of his neck until he looked at the male again. Uh yeah, I think you should get her. She’s totally pissed on me. And I’m never nearing an angry Cat again, and don’t worry your safe, I’m just watching her ‘cause I’m her older brother. She shrugged but turned. Walking towards the pair of horses awaiting him with eager ears the male had to smile. Looked like this guy didn’t think too highly of himself around his sister, he grinned rather devilishly, he liked to play maybe he should with this guy? The thought of Armelia’s broken face however made him reconsider it, he couldn’t hurt her, she’d been through enough and the only people she can consider caring about her is him, Matt and Amy. The female sneezed suddenly and took to her head until she looked towards the barn. Please be safe Matt, please. Her eyes were concerned again wondering what he would do and she truly hoped that she could get away from this horse soon.

Matt was perversely satisfied when the other guy turned and asked if he had a problem. Despite his decision to not get into any fights, he really wouldn't mind messing up this guy's face, especially when he called him 'pretty boy'. "Yea, a little!" he snapped, turned around and heading back towards Armelia's older boy toy, not caring what she thought. He wasn't thinking about consequences right now, he was hot and raring for a fight. Soldier barked and blocked his way, forcing him to stop for a minute and just glare at 'Alex'. His hurt and angry gaze turned first from the guy to Alto behind him, his jaw still set and his fists clenched.
Rosie seemed to sense something was going on down the hall and her frightened nicker echoed through the barn. Still, Matt didn't move his gaze from the guy who was swinging a punch his way. Now that he was thinking about it, fighting was turning out to be a really bad idea, no matter how he felt. So, he was prepared to take the punch when suddenly Alto jumped in front and took the poorly redirected punch. His angry expression turned concerned, then confused, then back to anger. That guy had just hit Armelia! It was bad enough she was with another guy, but one that hit her? "Hey-" he was about to tell him off when his words choked off. 'Sis'? What the hell?
Burning realization spread like wildfire through him as he noticed the uncanny resemblance between the two siblings. Brother and sister? She hadn't mentioned a brother...or had she? Now that he thought about it, yes she had. Shit. Why had he jumped to conclusions like that? "Sis? You are...?" he couldn't even finish the question, so bewildered was he. Matt's eyes were wide as saucers and his face as red as a tomato. Big mistake. Shit again. He had probably just messed things up with Alto by assuming she was with another guy. Shit shit shit. Then she slapped her brother for cursing, reprimanding him sharply. His face was just one big expression of shock.
Matt watched her go, swearing inwardly, but raised a brow at the chuckling older brother. "Uh...I feel really stupid," he said in reply to Adrian's advice to go after Armelia. "I'm Matt." With that stupid statement, he turned quickly and walked out of the barn. As he neared the entrance, he heard a retching sound and walked a little faster, turning the corner to find Alto sitting outside with a pile of throw-up nearby. His eyes widened in horror as he saw the palomino, or close to palomino horse, and he quickly remembered what she had told him yesterday. What was she still doing out here? Why hadn't she could in when she saw the horse?
"Alto, are you okay?" he asked her, walking faster over to her and kneeling down next to her, his arm going almost protectively around her shoulders. He glanced nervously at the horse nearby and then back at her. "Come on, I'll apologize for being an ass when we're out of sight of that thing," he said quickly, removing his arm from her shoulders and going around her waist, gently, to support her. He used that to help her up and half-carried, half-helped her into the barn. Soldier came trotting over to them amiably and sniffed her curiously, but didn't impede their progress.

Adrian only snorted at the other males angry temper but noticed how he stood his ground and knew what he thought. So this guy had a horse after all? Looking down at Armelia’s angry face made him back off and he sighed. Listening to Matt’s voice however made his dark chocolate eyes look at him teasingly and almost had a mocking tone to it, only that the warning from Cat’s eyes made him realize it wasn’t such a good idea. He scratched the back of his neck until the nineteen year old male spoke gently. Ah don’t worry about it. You’re not the only one mistaking us for being a couple. Though I must say, Cat got a good swing at me. He looked at her with a sad look but the female only shook her head at his attempt on sympathy, he could dream. But she just couldn’t stand being there and didn’t hear the two guys mumbling at each other. Adrian just nodded at his name and turned knowing Matt would follow his sister. But he had to admit though, they really fitted each other. The female sighed however and shivered feeling the breath of the horse. The color was imprinted in her brain. She fell into total darkness.
”Momma?” the sound of a five year old little girl walked out. She looked around, her thumb in her little mouth as she hears voices. What was going on? The sound of a scream made the little girl shivers. “Pa? Ma?” Her voice is but a squeak in the slowly shuttering of the voices. A large male suddenly comes out, he is half naked only having the shirt on. He looked at her, gives the little girl a smile, his teeth being rotten then takes her with him. “I see! Yah want it don’t cha! I knew it! Nothing but yah ma in yah!” She stiffens seeing her mother half beaten and bloody but alive. Shivering even more the little girl tries to break through his grasp. “Pa no! I don’t. It hurts!” She cries out but he doesn’t even check her, not even once. The little female only hears his laughter, it’s rotten, cold and shares no passion whatsoever with what she feels. And then everything turns black, only the moaning, slapping and the pain. The tears, the salt and then someone else, someone else? There’s another voice, it’s familiar yet not. But it brings light to her darkness, she grows up and suddenly is completely awake. Armelia flutters her eyes open. Matt is covering over her, she feels his protection and suddenly she can’t hold it anymore. The tears can finally be released. They cry for everything, the pain from her father, for Greeny that playful and lively horse of hers. But most of all, for freedom to know that she can finally let go. She shivers and clings to Matt, doesn’t speak not even one word, she can’t. It’s too soon. She feels his arms however, how they go around her waist and lifts her up, she can somehow feel his warmth. The way his heart pounds, he is worried she knows but she just can’t speak up. Too soon. The words fills her head, but why? Her tongue and lips feel dry and broken after she had thrown up. God why did she even throw up? The female doesn’t really know that either. But her eyes close and she lets her free tears wander down making his shirt wet, she can’t help it because she can’t stop it. She builds up her courage, sniffs slowly then dries her tears. Putting a palm on his chest she halts him and stands up on her own machine. She didn’t even wear any makeup but doesn’t bother about it. He has to know it right? It’s too soon but she can’t really keep her mouth shut anymore. Matt? I need to talk to you.Her heart his pounding hard as she says this. She watches him for a minute and makes her courage grow. Looking back at the barn she knows she can’t walk back. She doesn’t want to see Adrian, not yet. Who does he take her for? A fool? She knew quiet well that her mother had passed away; she had after all gotten the call on it from one of her well rather far off relatives or something. Hence she really didn’t want to see Adrian. Instead the seventeen year old teen grabbed Matt’s hand and walked the other way knowing Soldier would be right behind the male. She had seen the dog before but only once, he was massive and it made her think of her own dog. Donny, the pup was about a half year by now but she hadn’t taken with her the Berneese Mountain Dog, not yet. She looked around to find a soothed place and found it. She opened the tack room door and took him with her inside; closing and locking the door behind her Armelia finally understood what she was doing. She was taking a big step to the future. She didn’t turn before a couple of minutes had gone and hoped no one was going to get some tack. Her hand didn’t let go of Matt’s either and she sighed out. Here goes nothing. Turning around her emerald mixed with amber colored eyes looked into his. She watched him for a second but knew she had to stop him from apologizing. Don’t apologize Matt. I understand, I really do. But before that, I’m sorry for frightening you, but I just stop moving and can’t stop throwing up seeing a palomino or flaxen like that one. I had a horse before, he was a palomino and I got him with Loop. They were best of friends even though Loop was a reckless two year old and Greeny a wise ten year old. But Greeny hurt his leg and got an infection as well as a sickness, I loved him dearly, had only had him for a year but he passed that one winter and my well, the little life I had left fell apart. She stopped herself from going too far and looked up at Matt searching for something. Support? Trust? She really didn’t know but she waited for him to say something, anything before she would start talking more, she just hoped he wouldn’t be scared away. ››ooc ;; And here comes the boom. Matt half-expected the tears, although he couldn't say why. He just somehow knew that they were coming, especially after her seeing him about to deck her brother and a palomino horse. He still didn't know why they terrified her, she hadn't bothered explaining the other day, but he just knew that she had to release her emotion. So when she started sobbing, wetting his shirt, he just held her closer and allowed her to cry for a moment before she pushed him away gently. He could practically see the wheels turning in her pretty little mind and he looked at her curiously, one of his hands sliding down to take her hand.
"Is everything okay?" Matt asked Alto hesitantly, half-hoping she would give him a smile and tell him that everything was fine. Those words 'I need to talk to you,' terrified him more than any horse ever could. Shit, they weren't even officially dating or anything! How could she break up with him when they weren't even boyfriend-girlfriend? Yet. Still, the way she was looking at him wasn't the look of someone thinking about calling it quits. Just like she really was fighting with herself whether or not to tell him something. He wanted her to trust him, he did.
A few feet away, Soldier watched the two with his head cocked to the side in an endearing manner, wondering at the vibes that passed from boy to girl. He did indeed follow them closely, as if he were a chaperone, when Armelia took Matt by the hand and led him away from her brother to the tack room. Matt was, well, a little bewildered. Why were girls so complicated? Why was she locking the tack room door? Wouldn't someone get just a little suspicious if they were seen either entering or exiting a locked tack room? He stood awkwardly behind her, his hand still entwined in hers and the other on Soldier Boy's head. The big dog had managed to slip in before he was locked out and now sat patiently next to Matt, hoping sometime soon they could do something fun.
Matt almost breathed a sigh of relief when Armelia turned around and started talking, but he managed to just listen. He was more than a little relieved that what she was talking about had nothing to do with them as a couple. Plus, she was explaining her strange fear that he had been wondering about. This also showed that she trusted him, at least a little bit, or else she wouldn't be talking to him in a locked room.
When she seemed to be at least paused in her story, one of his hands went up to caress her face and he looked into her eyes with an understanding expression. He had to think very carefully about his next words, because right now she was very vulnerable and they both knew it. "I'm sorry," he said quietly, not really knowing what else to say. "I like learning about you, but what I don't understand is why you are stuck in the past?" That seemed to be the issue; Alto couldn't forget what had happened to her in the past and the fears of the present coincided with her fears of the past. "There's more, isn't there? That you're not telling me?" he asked in almost a whisper, his hand stroking her hair gently. He wanted to learn about her, to hear her problems and her fears...but he couldn't do anything about the past. Matt Laren was all about the future; he hated dwelling on his own past and had buried much of his own strife so that he could get on with his life. [/blockquote]

She thinks while watching Soldier. Her eyes are taken off of him by now because she tries to find the answer. Why does she live in the past? Dwell in it? Because you’re soul is sold, you’re mother committed suicide and the only one you’ve got is equines, that boy, your brother and the manager. What an amusing thought, well not really. But the thought of the one that she could trust, wouldn’t they help her darkness? Of course they did! Who got you out of the dwelling memory? You’re a filthy child! The voice in her head mocked her even more, palms went to the side of her head trying to shut them off, it didn’t help did I even need to say that? Releasing a sigh her eyes opened from their closed state, she looked back upon him, seeing his blue eyes that had always caught her, holding her and warming her whole body. Maybe she was a filthy child, but at least she felt cared for. To be honest, I don’t exactly know. I try to forget it, or rather I’ve already forgotten about it. But I’m not really amused by the thought that I’m sold, that my mother committed suicide and that my dad got killed after selling me. (She got shivers but hid it.) But I don’t care about it. No one knows that my real name is Ainsworth; I go by Wimbelton in the papers. (She shrugged the rest off.) I’m ahead for a future unknown, there are only shadows that still dwell and reminds me how much my life from five to ten sucked. She looked at him but didn’t show anything, she felt empty, which was weird, she never felt empty. She usually cried when talking about it, didn’t she?
Hearing him whispering that he wanted to know warmed her heart. She felt like giving him a kiss on his cheek but kept with it. She had to manage to tell him this, of course she trusted him. He was probably one of the few that she had ever opened up to. Her tears had already dried up and she didn’t feel that they were coming, not yet. She felt strong enough to keep up with telling him the rest. And leaned against the door, the hell with other people! She didn’t bother about the rumours as long as Matt wouldn’t get into trouble. Biting her under lip a little she tried to think of where she had been and decided to leave out her foster problems, he knew how they could be all to well right? Well, I wasn’t allowed to morn over him, my foster care thought of it as rude and I had to make my living which usually meant riding four to five horses a day, working with school, or else god would curse me. I went to bed at 1 AM and was up at 5 AM. I love it there though, somehow or another but I moved out and was found asleep in the stables. My foster-mother hated it but usually ignored me so I ignored her as well. I skipped out of school when I was fourteen because I couldn’t take it anymore. It wasn’t really for me anyways so I was stuck with my foster-mother who couldn’t take my face. And I only recently got a letter addressed to me stating about my fathers death, my mothers suicide and the debt which stated that I was owned by some creepy guy in England. She had to stop, take a deep breath and relax. Was there more to really say? Well other then the molesting? No that was too soon to tell him, maybe one day but not today. Her eyes went on Soldier again and she liked the big dog even though he had managed to take a spot by his owner’s side. She watched the dog calmly and started to breath, relaxed by just standing there covered in silence while listening to his words. Of course she would listen, she loved to hear his voice, it was smooth, caring but most of all, she could feel that he was hiding something; she was curious of this but would ask. As soon as she was done with her own mind, that had fallen in place at last. Yeah, there you have it, I’m sorry for locking you in here I just didn’t want my nosy brother to poke his head in. He is struggling with the battle whether he should tell me momma have died or not. But I’m glad I got the courage to say it out loud, I really trust you Matt. Her eyes had slipped back, she couldn’t really say how much she liked him, not yet but at least her eyes could show she cared. And yet she wanted to know what he was hiding from her. Cocking her head like Soldier had done the female looked at him curiously with a hint of trust and feelings from her revealing until he lips finally moved, releasing that soft shade which she had gotten just recently. But what about you? I know that you do not dwell in the past, but there must’ve been something that trigged your button out there? Do you feel like telling me? She wasn’t dumb or slow but curious, what if she really thought of it right? What then? Matt stood quietly, watching her think, his hand absently stroking hers and his other hand on top of Soldier's sturdy head. He had a feeling that this was very difficult for her to tell him, but he definitely wanted to know how she came to be the girl she was today. Besides, she wasn't alone and she needed to know that. She needed to know that other people had problems with their past and there was a way to move on past it. He saw her hands go up to her ears before her eyes flew open and she saw him, almost relaxing. He liked to think that he was comforting her in some way just by being there, but he couldn't dwell on that for long because she had started talking. When she paused, he didn't say anything because there wasn't anything sufficient to say. Sold? Suicide? Maybe this was a little too much for her to tell him too soon...if it was, it didn't matter, for she had already started and he still wanted to know.
He just kept holding her hand, listening to her talk about her foster parents and only nodded, not daring to say anything until she was finished. She took a deep breath and he released one he hadn't realized he'd been holding, shifting his gaze to Soldier Boy. "That's tough. Really tough," he said as sincerely as possible, his voice quiet. His intense gaze turned back to her own vulnerable one and he brought one hand to her cheek, stroking her face gently. "But you know what? That stuff doesn't define you. That's just what's happened to you. You decide what defines who you are and what I see is a strong, beautiful girl who is just trying to decide where she's going in life. The future can be scary, but the past is the past and it's already done." Matt paused to take a steadying breath, pushing his own problems out of the way. He gave her a reassuring smile and kissed her forehead gently. "You have people who care about you, you know. Me, Amy, your brother...and you don't have to hide anything anymore."
While Matt waited for her to say something or do something, Soldier gave a soft whine and pressed his head against Armelia's hand, licking it amiably. He wasn't able to understand what they were saying, but the sadness in the room was almost tangible and he was a smart dog. Matt smiled down at his large dog for offering Armelia some comfort. "I don't mind being locked in any room with you," he said with a small laugh. "You don't have to apologize for that and I'm glad you can trust me. I just have a question...is that your biological brother or foster brother?" He had a feeling Adrian was her true brother from the same mother, since they had a faint resemblance, but he still wanted to know. Maybe it was a stupid question, but he couldn't be certain.
Matt raised a brow as she asked him about himself. "Oh, that? I was...just really upset. I thought he was hitting on you and I got a little overprotective. I'm sorry that I overacted..." he said, shaking his head and running a hand through his hair as thought embarrassed. And he was. He shouldn't have reacted so violently. His eyes caught hers and suddenly he wanted to pour out his heart, his soul, to her. Tell her about why he was so messed up...why he, no matter how much he preached it to others, couldn't move on. Still, there was the issue that he never told anyone anything they didn't need to know. He had never talked to anyone about his problems in the past before; he had even hidden most of it from his counselor. So, when she asked about his past, he kind of stiffened a little, withdrew. "The past is the past..." he whispered to himself and her, just quietly drawing her into his arms and holding her close. [/blockquote]
