Aaron McClain && Comanche Chief && Queen of Hearts Aaron couldn't remember the last time he'd been this tired. He felt like one of the living dead as he hauled the two-horse trailer up the road toward the stables. Aaron had spent the past week in Tulsa with his uncle riding Comanche and Heart in a rodeo, spending some time with his cousins while he was there. Now he'd been driving straight shot from Illinois since he had stopped the night before. He'd lost count of how many hours he had been driving, stopping every two hours to walk the horses and check Comanche's ankle. The stallion had turned a bad corner on a barrel and taken both himself and Aaron out completely. Luckily it had been the last event and Aaron had suffered nothing worse than a single break to his wrist which was currently bound up in a brace.
No lasting damage had been done but Aaron had been driving one-handed for the past six hours, guzzling energy drinks and trying to run as much as he could get out of his truck's gas tank. Sighing, the teen pulled into the stable yard and threw the truck in park. Getting out, Aaron looked down at his right hand, wrist bound in a stiff cast and sighed. This would be fun, unloading two horses one handed. He didn't even have his uncle to help him like they'd loaded the horses in Tulsa.
Going around the back of the trailer, Aaron pulled down the ramp on the trailer, the bar holding both Comanche and Heart inside. The two horses nickered and whinnied when they saw him, sensing familiar surroundings.
"Hey guys, home sweet home" Aaron said, smiling and patting Comanche's neck while Heart lipped at his sleeve. "Wait here guys, I need to find some help and get all this stuff unloaded."
Aaron glanced at the camper chest in the back of his truck, loaded down with leather chaps, spurs, show bridles and of course two different sets of tack. His uncle had loaded it all when they'd left Tulsa and had helped him load in Illinois. Now he had no idea how he was supposed to manage now that he was at the stable with a broken wrist. Heaving a sigh, Aaron grabbed a lead rope from the back of his truck and went to Comanche, clipping it on the palomino's halter and started walking him down the ramp, leaving Heart in the trailer. Comanche limped down the ramp, Aaron patiently letting the stallion come as he would though he felt bad for Comanche getting his leg twisted. The injured limb was wrapped securely and had been checked several times while in Tulsa and on the road.
It took him nearly half an hour to get Comanche and Heart settled into their proper stalls since Heart refused to go in at first, trotting in circles and rolling her eyes wearily. He would have to set them out to pasture as soon as possible so they could stretch their legs. Raking his good hand through his hair, Aaron went back out to the trailer and looked from the tack boxes to the open trailer, trying to figure out how exactly to maneuver this with minimal use of his right hand since the fingers were stiff in the cast. Not to mention that but he would have to go check Comanche's leg again and rewrap it to keep swelling down until the sprain healed. Who knew how he was going to manage that?

She felt the pleasant weather of the day. The breeze that danced through her soft colored brunette hair as she put it up in a ponytail. Walking by the pastures with a navy blue lead rope attached to a matching nylon halter the twenty year old walked to the fourth large pasture, a smile caught upon her lips, she knew which stud was waiting for her. The gate appeared in her view and she slipped off the lock and walked in before closing it behind her. Midnight! Time to come home! She shouted out with a soft voice that had a faint hit of British accent. A pair of crème colored ears was shown in the horizon and soon enough a pair of blue eyes showed underneath the forelocks of a handsome horse. The Danish Warmblood stallion reared up seeing the tall female and cantered with long strides down. Making several turns around her made her laugh and she saw how he clamed down until he completely halted. You ready to get in again? I don’t think I can ride you today boy, I need to work tonight and I need to talk with the owner. She made a grimace and he sniffed her sensitive neck softly.
Feeling the thin threads against her sensitive skin the female laughed and put on his halter. No tickling me! That’s so unfair! The stallion snorted but nickered and made a goofy expression. She released a soft giggle and clipped the halter in a secured matter. She didn’t want him to run a round and covering mares. Walking beside the shining equine she felt a little shabby. Her hair was put up in a childish ponytail, she was wearing a worn out jeans with a soft beige and brown colored top that was a little out of place and yet, it looked kind of good on her. Ocean Midnight however took out in full pride. His nylon halter was well kept with an incredible rich color, he had a soft and light blanket with his name on it, needless to say that Theodosia had used most of her money on her horses well being. He was after all an expensive horse. If it hadn’t been for her aunt and uncle she would’ve never afforded him at all. he had cost her almost twenty grand for gods sake! His pedigree was almost flawless as well as his proportions and yet many told her she was insane. He would never do much on the track now would he? Well of course, he had won several competitions already and he was to be her well promised champion. And yet his stud fee was quite small compared to his cost. Or was it? She was never good with fees. But he was worth it, he was hers after all.
Midnight snorted and danced beside her, his tail up high with his legs kept up as well he was a magnificent height. She smiled at his actions; he knew that he was handsome at least. Walking up the path to the parking lot she noticed a tall male that seemed to have problems. His right arm was injured and he had wrapped it. She frowned lightly and clicked her tongue leading her horses towards him. Midnight thinking he was going to go in the trailer neighed with an excited manner and tripped around her but got confused when she just went past it with him. He looked at her with his soft blue eyes and bobbed his head curiously. Not today boy. Not today. She whispered in his ears until they halted behind the male. She poked his left shoulder and hoped she didn’t startle him until she spoke gently. Hi, do you need any help? I’m Theodosia and I’m new but I’ll help if you need anything. The twenty year old female stood calmly beside her albino coated stallion who looked around curiously. His ears flicked and he was rather calm while he waited by her side.

Aaron pondered going to find Amy to track down a stable hand until the clack of horse hooves on concrete made him look around. He blinked once, twice and then actually got his sleep-deprived mind to process what he was seeing. At first he thought it was Aiden until his brain processed a blond woman, older than Aiden leading an astoundingly white warmblood that had pink eyes marking him as an albino. Aaron brought his good hand up to his face and rubbed his itchy, tired eyes before raking a hand through his hair and looking back at the truck and attached trailer he'd been driving for the last who knew how many hours. He pondered her offer for a moment before chuckling and looking back at her.
"Yeah, I guess I could use a little help" Aaron admitted with a worn out smile. "Name's Aaron McClain, nice to meet you. Just got my horses back in their stalls, now I need to get the tack into the tack room but I don't think I can balance it all." Aaron chuckled, glancing at the camper boxes in the back of the truck. "If you're busy though, don't worry about it, I'll manage, it'll just take a little longer."
Being a natural southern-born and bred gentleman, Aaron wasn't about to make a lady work if he didn't have to. He could manage, he supposed, it would just take a few hours to actually move the tack, check it and then take care of Heart and Comanche. That of course included refilling their hay nets, changing water, setting Heart out in the pasture and taking another look at Comanche's sprained limb. God it would be a long day...
Just at the thought of all the work awaiting him, Aaron felt the intense urge to just fall over and sleep on the ground. It probably wouldn't be that bad, right? People used to do it all the time before rideside motels. Still, there was the odd chance he might get, oh say, trampled by a passing horse being led into the stable. Even with that sentament spoken, Aaron still didn't want to impose on anyone. He would manage....somehow. Eventually. People with one arm managed to do things so surely he could too. His uncle had offered to help unload and get the horses settled but Aaron had sent him home in Aaron's truck while Aaron drove his uncle's truck hauling the trailer. Now however he was thinking of just what a stupid mistake that had been.
"I think I bit off more than I could chew with this little adventure" Aaron muttered, leaning over to reach into the bed of the truck and snap the clasp on one of the camper boxes and toss the lid open, checking to make sure the show gear was as he had left it. Of course one box held Comanche's gear, grooming stuff, leg braces and whatnot while the other held slightly lighter gear for Heart when he rode her for calf roping and pole bending.

She gazed to his arms and noticed how tired he was and got surprised that he had managed to get his two horses inside. Hearing what he needed help with however the female had to smile and easily slipped Midnights lead rope in the male’s healthy palm. The stallion stood there relaxed, his blue eyes half closed as he breathed warmly. I’m not trying to be rude Mr. McClain but I think you need help and I’m not busy at all. Midnight can have two saddles on his back and don’t worry, just tell him to stay or tie him up and I’ll come behind you with the bridles. You look really tired and if you need help with checking one of the horses I can do it. It was a peace offering, she wasn’t going to do it if he didn’t want to but her eyes told him she would take on the saddles even if he liked it or not. Grabbing both of the western saddles without much force the female noticed how expensive they were but somehow managed to get them both on the stallions back. The sudden heavy load made the horse move a little but he only grunted and flicked his ears looking at them gently. He was a good horse and she had trained him well through the years.
Looking at the bridles she took them on her shoulders as well as the grooming kits and looked at him with a soft look with her hazel eyes. Please Mr. McClain don’t complain, I just want to help and two peoples with one horse is better then one right? And don’t worry. Midnight will walk right beside you, he accepts people when I’m calm with them. She smiled reassuring and waited on his turn to walk. He was probably worried about his horses and she wouldn’t blame him. But while he was taking care of them as best as he could she would get the rest of his tack inside as well as filling the hay nets or something else. She really wanted to help him, she just wanted to be allowed to or else she would feel useless, like when she had been married. God she hated that man, she was so glad that they were divorced, and yet she still couldn’t let it.

Aaron sensed it would be no good to try and turn down the aid again, so he took the stallion's lead peaceably, murmuring a soft greeting to the handsome albino. Aaron examined the pink eyes as best he could without having a true-blue knowledge of albinos. Remembering from last year's biology course, Aaron did remember that albinos were supposed to be blind for some reason he couldn't specifically remember. But, the odd thing was this stallion didn't act blind or even really look it. The pink eyes were clear not clouded which was still odd. Even partial albinos were known to have horrible eyesight or some other deformity. A healthy albino animal was very rare and Aaron was intrigued by the horse even if he wasn't a sturdy stock breed like his preferred quarter horses and mustangs.
"You make it hard to say no" Aaron said, looking back at Theodosia as she lifted the pair of western saddles onto the stallion's back and reach for the bridles. "I have to say I never thought I'd get back from Tulsa. Me and my uncle went to spend some time with my cousins and there was a rodeo so I thought I'd go riding." Aaron sighed and clicked his tongue to lead Midnight forward into the barn. "Didn't work out as well as I had planned. Comanche sprained an ankle and if I don't get Heart out of her stall and into a ring or something she's going to go nuts. She hates long distance travel."
Aaron gestured toward the bay paint quarter horse mare glaring at him as he passed her stall. She seemed to be demanding to know why she was in a stall and he was walking around with a funny looking stallion. Comanche's bald head and baby blue eyes watched Aaron has he passed, curious about the other horse but otherwise quiet, leaning on the wall of his stall with his sprained leg curled inward. Aaron smiled sheepishly and brought the stallion to a stop outside of the tack room.
He felt a bit off now, thinking of how long it would take for Comanche to be ridable again. Not to mention his uncle had forbidden him to ride until he could ride with both hands holding the reins even when half the time he rode barrels he held the reins one hand, using the other to balance himself. Still, it was parental concern since his uncle was like a second dad since he'd come to help out and moved from Kansas. The family reunion in Tulsa had left them staying with his cousins but strangely, Aaron's own dad hadn't come which made him irritated on top of impossibly tired. Was his dad ignoring him because he wasn't going to college? That seemed a little extreme.
Still...in the McClain family, somebody was always mad at somebody and now it was probably Aaron's turn to get the cold shoulder from his pa. The only problem with this was it tended to last five to ten years depending on the offense. With Aaron's case it would probably last sixty, or until he died. Whichever came first.

A soft glance of her hazel eyes were given and she listened to him with a soft smile. Well, I don’t have the time to train Midnight today, I have to get to work in three hours and it’s just no time for my big boy because he takes almost two hours to train. But if Comanche will let me I could shift his wrap and check on it for you? I don’t think the owner will like that your mare will kick the stall out. She spoke softly and noticed the bay painted mare. She was a cutie and his palomino Quarter looked like a doll! He was so pretty! A childish side of her felt like appearing but she kept it silenced. As he halted the stallion she whispered a gentle command which made Midnight flick his ears and lean in relaxed without a care. She got the bridles and box’ set with ease and took off the saddles which only made the stallion shook his body to ease up his muscles until eh stood in the same position ignoring the glaring mare but pointing an ear directed to Comanche. He was a stallion, but he loved to interact with any horse at all. A true sweetheart after all, and a dream horse if people thought about it.
She decided to speak noticing how he had looked at Midnight before they had walked in, a light but soft smile laced on her lips as she spoke. Midnight comes from a long line of wealthy Warmbloods, he has a sister that is an albino as well but she isn’t as healthy as he. Probably why he cost so much, but his worth it, but it’s not because of his lines or anything, he bailed around like a maniac when I first got him. I was just lucky getting him. Of course, he cost me everything I had in the bank, but if you click with a horse isn’t it just worth it? She looked at Aaron, his stallion looked well bred and she had a feeling he was a true country boy, not one of those that thought they were. No she could clearly see it, a hundred percent Country. The thought amused her gently and she clicked her tongue. The stallion came behind her without a protest, he was in a good mood today, trying to impress someone perhaps?
Eyes went towards the palomino stallion with bald face and she noticed his stunning blue eyes. Remembering that the male had been with his uncle she looked at his right arm with a frown. Well, not to sound nosy or anything but you’re not allowed to ride for awhile right? And I’m sorry to hear that the rodeo went bad, but the good thing is that you and Comanche is a live right? I mean it could go worse, and I suspect that those two over there will never let an injury stop them, just like their owner, am I not right? Ok so she had analyzed his form, a little at least, but she couldn’t help it. She had to try and see if the male was a good guy or a bad guy, because Theo had enough of bad guys.

Aaron really wanted to help Theo to unload the gear but something told him he'd probably just be told to stop and just let her help. Thus, he remained still, studying the finely bred warmblood as the older woman explained his heritage. He certainly looked the part of an expensive English riding horse, strong legs, defined head, muscular chest, toned muscle and for half a second Aaron almost felt poor to be riding quarter horses. Then again, Comanche hadn't been cheap, not in the slightest. Aaron had worked his butt off for years to get the money to brood one of his dad's mares to a good quarter horse stud. Comanche was a work of art all on his own, just in a different way.
Passing the lead for Midnight back to the woman, Aaron smiled and walked over to Comanche's stall. The palomino hung his head over the stall door giving a tired snuffle and looking at Aaron forlornly. Aaron chuckled, rubbing the stallion's face between his eyes. Comanche snuffled again and leaned into the touch, closing his eyes and looking drowsy, totally ignoring Midnight despite his usually friendly personality.
"Comanche's from one of my dad's old girls, Keeping the Spotlight. I think I spent a good year and a half trying to convince the sire's owner to take her as a brood." Aaron chuckled, patting the stallion's white-splashed face. "Heart over there is a rescue, she was in a rodeo that ran her to the bone so the humane society claimed her. My uncle bought her after I moved here and she's good for roping. They're both hard working and I can ride with one hand, usually that's what I do anyway and that's why my wrist is broken, one arm went flying and I landed bad." Aaron winced at the memory but knew it was all just part of the life riding in a rodeo. He expected worse injuries in the future when he went pro.
Heart snorted and tossed her head impatiently, pacing in her stall. She was a good enough mare, just under sixteen hands with a rich coloring. She had strong legs and a defient attitude that had made Aaron fall in love with her. Comanche was a bit more stocky despite his long legs, he had a decent body structure, nice neck, well shaped head and a great muscle structure making him quite the envy for many more western-inclined riders. Add the fine features and good pedigree to his amazing personality when he wasn't hurting and Comanche was just an amazing horse. Aaron smiled, no longer jealous of the well-bred English warmblood. His kids were born to work and ride rough, not trot in circles in a dressage ring and it showed but didn't make them poor or any worse than anything else.
"If you want to check Comanche's leg he should be alright about it" Aaron told Theo, looking over his shoulder at the woman, Comanche's nose against his chest as the stallion took comfort from his owner. His leg was probably irritated from the trip and did need tending to but in his state, Aaron couldn't do it.

She looked at him with a gentle look while listening to his words about Comanche. So she had right after all? Well the stallion surely looked well-bred. The Cremello colored stallion looked from behind her with a not so pleasant snort as he felt ignored. The twenty year old smiled and listened to the male again until she led her own horse into his large stall. Closing it behind her and walked back. She let her hand out to the bald faced Quarter and smiled at him. His really handsome though. You’re really lucky and I’m sorry to hear about Heart but she looks much better then a couple of rodeo horses. You’ve done a great job with her. She didn’t near the mare having a feeling that the rescue Quarter wasn’t pleased having a stranger near ‘her’ human. So instead of nearing the painted horse she went closer to Comanche to see over the stall. She noticed the leg and saw how the horse took it up not supporting on it at all. Thinking to herself the female looked back at Aaron, she had a calm smile on until she spoke so ever gently. ok, I hope it’s ok if I give him a treat afterwards? He doesn’t look so pleased to have his leg bandaged. You take care of Heart, she looks really annoyed.
The female walked into the tack room to find two new bandages, one for covering the first bandage so she took that from Comanche’s kit. Finding another one she found the cream she was looking for as well as oil and opened the door. Looking at Aaron she didn’t feel like telling him what she was going to put on the stallion’s leg but as long as it worked wasn’t it ok? She opened the stall door with a gentle and slow motion in case he would spook seeing her instead of his owner. She wasn’t afraid of a horse and decided to let him know she was far from dangerous. Stroking the neck and letting him sniff her over she was careful when sliding her palm down his leg while speaking in a hushed tone. It’s ok, good boy. Let us make your leg heal so you can run around like a maniac, sounds good? She gave him a light carrot treat until she started unwrapping his outer bandage being careful not to touch any really sensitive parts. Taking off the other wrappers as well she let her slender cold fingers go down the warm spot. Poor thing, he had really twisted it bad. She took the oil in her palm and took them together, a soft scent of calming and effective herbs emitted from the oil and Theo looked up at Comanche. He could stop her any minute.
Letting the fingers and palm massage his legs in a way that it didn’t hurt but didn’t tickle either the female found the cream. She knew what she was doing; she had bought it in case Midnight twisted his ankle as well. Putting the calm and cool cream on she let it dry a little until wrapping everything back and checked it. Seeing as it was good to go she closed the lockets on her cream and oil and stroke Comanche again. That’s a good boy, it wasn’t so bad was it? She smiled and gave him another treat until opening and closing the stall door after her. With the old bandages in her arms she threw the ones they didn’t need anymore but wrapped the other so they could use it again. She put the rest in the tack room and walked over to her own stallion that lovingly muffled at her chest. He was such a sweetheart. But Theo was waiting on Aaron wondering if he would even approve her work on his horses leg. She wouldn’t be satisfied until she knew for sure.

Nodding, Aaron stepped back from Comanche making the palomino snort. Chuckling, Aaron went to Heart's stall. The instant he stepped up to the half door, the bay paint was at full attention, dark eyes trained on her owner and ears swerved forward. Laughing at the mare's intent, Aaron reached into her stall and grabbed a dark blue nylon lead rope and clipped it onto her halter. Unbolting the stall door while Theo went to the tack room, Aaron led Heart out of the stall. The mare came willingly with a happy whinny, prancing in place as Aaron closed her stall door, the impatience drawing another laugh from her young owner. High-spirited with Aaron but no one else, Heart was quite an energetic girl. She needed to move and after hours in a trailer with trips out every few hours she was definitely in critical need of a chance to run.
Since Aaron couldn't take her to the pasture, the teen just led the mare toward the large ring that for once was empty of new TAEA adoptees. Heart snorted impatiently, swishing her black tail as Aaron unbolted the pen gate and lead her in, lead held firmly in his good hand. Heart nickered and high-stepped into the pen, not at all minding the larger enclosure. Aaron unclipped the lead and without hesitation the mare took off around the ring at a gallop, kicking up her heels in mini bucks and flinging up dust. Rolling his eyes at the energetic quarter horse, Aaron slipped out of the ring, leaving Heart to buck around to her heart's content.
Jogging back to the stables, Aaron arrived just as Theo entered Comanche's stall. The bald-faced palomino was watching the girl a bit wearily but was making no move to bite or spook. Aaron went to the stall door and stood near Comanche's head, watching as the swelled up leg was revealed. He winced in sympathy with his horse but glad Comanche had gotten up after he'd gone down. If he hadn't there was a good chance he would have been put down.
Comanche twitched his ears at Aaron's arrival but continued watching the woman crouched near his hooves, unraveling the bandage. The stallion snorted and flinched slightly when she tried to touch the swollen place but didn't kick her in the face which Aaron was thankful for. Despite his sweetheart appearance, Comanche could pack a punch if he felt like it. Thankfully the stallion was still and quiet, letting the woman tend his leg though he flinched every now and then when he felt the pressure was too much on the hurt ankle. Finally when Theo straightened up and left his stall, Comanche relaxed, accepting the treat she offered with a soft snuffle.
"Bet that feels better huh boy?" Aaron murmured to the stallion as Theo went to put the bandages back.
Comanche snorted and looked out of the barn where he could see Heart still running about in the ring. The stallion whinnied to his stall-neighbor and got a high-pitched whinny back from Heart. Aaron knew Heart didn't like stallions or horses but she tolerated Comanche, probably since they were together so much and Comanche was usually very passive.
Aaron laughed, patting Comanche's neck. "In a few weeks you can go run around like a fool with her ok?" Comanche snorted. Rolling his eyes, Aaron looked over at Theo and Midnight and smiled. "Thanks a lot, sorry I had to bother you but..." He jerked his wrapped wrist. "Stuff happens I guess."
Aaron leaned against Comanche's stall door and slid down so he was sitting on the floor, knees drawn up in front of Comanche's stall. He was going to hang around until Heart calmed down and he could bring her in and then head home for some much needed sleep. Right now though? Sleeping on the floor in front of Comanche's stall seemed the next best thing to sleeping in his truck which he'd been cramped in for the past eight to ten hours.

Midnight looked towards the male as he saw him entering again. Large ears flicked as the cremello colored Warmblood looked from owner to palomino. He shook his head and retreated to his beloved hay net. Theodosia gave her horse a smile and heard Aaron. Turning her rather tall frame the female gave him a gentle smile until she spoke softly. Oh don’t worry, and I wasn’t going to do anything smart anyway. And besides, I need to go in like an hour. She gave a shrug, it was no big deal really. It just annoyed her that she wouldn’t be able to ride Midnight today. She had been looking forward to it too. Why was the world against her anyway? She didn’t really get it, ah well. Better hanging in the thread then getting cut huh? And besides Aaron, you don’t need to tell me what happened if it bothers you. It has nothing to do with me after all. The twenty year old female had a pair of gentle eyes as she looked at him. Her hazel color was easily matching her darker brunette long hair. She heard the snort from her stallion, he was feeling bored, that was for sure.
