Not exactly my best work ever, but I did a quick cut out of the horse, and didn't work with layering. Just shoved it on the background. Done with GIMP, and the pictures are from D.A. I find making banners and such very interesting, so I'll probably sit down on a day off and make a decent photoshop. Critiques are luffed, and luffs are luffed. The legs are an absolute terror as I didn't use layering and just did slap-shot blending. xD

Oooh! It's very pretty! I love the sun and the building in the background! The building in the background looks kind of like our barn... old and run-down looking... Lol, it's absolutely beautiful!
I can see what you mean about the legs not looking their best, but it's still MUCH better than anything I can do... I don't have photoshop or anything...

Looks great! :D Some advice I can give is that the mane and tail are smudged into all directions, rather than in one, flowing direction that the wind should be carrying it to. You know? And some spots you've smudged look a little spiky or straight, whereas it should be more flowy/wavy.
Also, I learned a trick about legs and that annoying, long grass. Using the eraser or cut out tool (feather set on around 40% maybe?), erase the majority of the legs into the grass. Since it's tall grass, the legs wouldn't be floating alongside it, but hidden in it.
The horse's tones are mostly cool, versus the background looking hot. Maybe set another layer on the horse with some red tones or something, or vice-versa (cool tones over the background). It would further make the subject and background look like they belong together.
Hope that helps! :) I really love the image.

Thank you, both of you!
I can see what you mean about the color tones. Usually I incorporate more realistic shadowing, but I've never layered the horse ( or any other animal/thing ) before to add tone. I'll experiment! Thanks!
I don't have an official photoshop either, but I make do with GIMP which is a great, free download. I <3 it.
