I’m like a ringleader, I called the SHOTS!
She looked out of the window excitedly. She couldn’t wait! She wanted to get out so bad! Looking across her she looked at the black haired male. A large smile upon her childish face as she proclaimed loudly her thoughts. Dad! Aren’t we there yet! Come on! I want to see Prince! The male smiled, his piercing blue eyes looked into the child’s same blue. They were very much alike only that she was blonde and he was well, black haired. He ruffled her hair gently until he too spoke rather sheepishly. Yes, yes. Seriously Kay you need to calm down. Poor ol’ Prince won’t manage a day with you wanting to ride him all day long. She laughed but made a pout as an answer of his joke. Little Kayleey Rose Greene only ten years of age couldn’t wait now could she? Even she knew that Jon wasn’t her father but she had called him it. Calling out uncle wasn’t that much fun and if she did then it wouldn’t feel as if he was hers. She loved him like her own father even if his death was tragic she couldn’t help but not understand why she hadn’t died as well. He felt how absent she went and hooked her chin letting her look at him. Hey, don’t think about them ok? It’s long in the past and if I’m not mistaken I think that’s the barn. He pointed it out with his head and she looked at it, a squeal got released and everything was blown away again.
He moved the large vehicle with the horse transport behind him. Backing it up so it wouldn’t be in the way or hurt anyone he parked it. Turning off the engine he only managed to turn around to see the little girl jump out of the car and run to the back. He laughed and shook his head, what a child. How he managed to go through a day with her was still a wonder but he didn’t care, he loved her after all. Opening the door he closed it behind him, two leads in his hand. One was a light blue color and pretty short while the other held a beautiful lavender color but was pretty long to be a normal lead rope. He turned the corner of the trailer, noticed how it was moving and knew TC wanted to get out. Kay on the other hand was jumping up and down like a rabbit not wanting to stand still. Her eyes were open wide and she couldn’t wait but twirled around dancing now and then. I’m getting my pony! I’m getting my pony! She sang out until she finally calmed down when the male caught her. Ok, ok, I know. But could you please stand still while I fetch your pony? His stall is number twelve, can you manage that? She nodded excitedly but was a good girl and stood still while she watched her uncle lower the ramp. He went inside and she couldn’t help but smile hearing the different neighs. Or rather one neigh and a squeal
Jon could easily see the pony he was looking for. The dark bay gelding was only standing at thirteen hands while TC being the large mare she was held her point at seventeen point three hands. He clipped on the lead rope after opening the door which kept the two horses apart as well as the outer horse and ramp. Leading the little pony out he gave him to Kayleey that as always was a “good” girl and almost tripped while walking with the horse at her side. They were equally in height and he smiled seeing how little Prince made a little “show” because his owner was excited. They truly fitted each other now didn’t they? But right now he had to do something else as well. He had to get his princess out of the trailer. TC or Taking Chances as her charming show name is was far from a seven year old. Well she was in age but too lively and stubborn to be one. The Warmblood was a draft cross but the owners hadn’t told him what kind. He didn’t really bother anything about it. She was a great jumper and a dressage mare and he was going to start event with her hence he needed to start on the cross country course. But only if she would behave of course.
The mare snorted, her head was held high while ears pinned and perked with each other. She wasn’t really nervous. She just had a load of energy and had always had it. He had trained her since he got his new job and he had quit that job or else he wouldn’t be here. He was twenty-five and many would think he was weird not being married or even have a girlfriend. It was just that not many females saw it charming to deal with a ten year old that got easily jealous whenever he got a new girl around. He sighed; she really had him twirled around her little finger now didn’t she? The dappled mare looked at him curiously now, she wondered why he hadn’t taken her out and he smiled. Opening the sliding wall he switched the travelling lead rope with the lavender colored one. The mare flicked her tail and nodded until she pawed the floor ready to go out. Easy girl. It’s ok. There you go. He spoke softly, now and then switched to his Gaelic words but the mare didn’t really listen that much. Just as she came down on the ground she started acting up. Ears perking and she neighed telling everyone she had come. Of course, Prince replied in his stall but stood still while Kay took off his riding tack.
He took her in several circles until he felt dizzy and sure enough eh could lead her in. The mare danced at his side showing off with her beautiful form that was hiding underneath her matching travelling blanket. Looking at the stall thirteen he opened the door having her name tag on it. He led her around several tours in the stall until she settled down a little. Closing the door behind him he noticed that everything was ok and he didn’t really need to do anything other then getting the tack inside as well. Kay came out of Prince’s stall, her eyes shining and she closed the door after her having his blanket, boots and halter with lead rope on her hands. He smiled and took it from her. Sitting down a little he looked at her then the car until he decided what to do. Here’s what you can do ok? Go to the office there. (Pointed at the large door where it said office of course.) And tell Miss. Garland that we have come while I’ll take in the tack, ok? She nodded and smiled but after he took the travelling tack from her understood the word “Miss” and looked at him. You mean Miss as if a girl that is single? Are you tricking me again? He looked at her and only shook his head. She felt satisfied with the answer and went towards the office while humming to herself. Jon couldn’t help but smile and shook his head at her. She was suspicious of everything wasn’t she?
Kay smiled softly until she looked at the office door. Looking behind her she saw her father/uncle coming from the car with most of the tack. She turned back and knocked on the door softly. Counting to five she closed her eyes without knowing it. One…Two…Three…Four…Five! The little girl opened the door and looked around while she spoke out loud. Hello? Miss Garland? My dad and I have arrived. She looked around again until she could find something to write on. She found a pencil and started writing with her rather childish writing skill saying. “Dear Miss Garland. My father and I have arrived we are in the barn. Kayleey.” Satisfied with her work she went out again, almost running but kept put only to see her father/uncle disappearing in TC’s stall to take off her blanket. The male didn’t notice his little daughter/niece go into Prince’s stall and hiding in the gelding’s stall while waiting on Miss Garland so she could scare the female. Well not care, just plop out with a big smile ruining the image of her father Jon being single, that was all.

Amy Garland Somebody somewhere wanted Amy to die of stress. Amy was sure of it, positive. Coordinating riding lessons, class sizes, student arrivals and TAEA arrivals was going to give her high blood pressure before she was even thirty. Sighing for the hundredth time in the past hour, Amy leaned back in her office chair, raking her hand through her thick dark curly hair. Her frustrated gaze was laying on the mess of files all over her desk containing everything from student applications to TAEA hopefuls and lesson plans that needed reviewing. Behind her chair, under the window, Amy could hear Frisco let out a soft whine and get up. The husky mix stuck his head under the arm of Amy's chair to lay his head on her jeans. Amy absentmindedly stroked his head and tried to mentally figure out how much time she had to get all this stuff done.
Looking up when someone knocked on the door, Amy was about to say "come in" when the door opened. Assuming it was a student, Amy half rose to help them with something when a little girl, maybe ten years old at most, came in and announced she and her dad had arrived and left in a whirl of blond hair. Amy's eyebrows rose in mild surprise and Frisco angled his head curiously as the girl scampered off and looked at Amy as if asking for some kind of explanation.
Curious herself, Amy grabbed a file off the desk and flipped it open. The file contained one student application and one job application. Ah. That explained it.
Getting up, Amy clicked her tongue and headed out of the office with Frisco following behind happily wagging his shaggy half-curled tail. Amy's boots clopped on the concrete as she moved around down the aisle of stalls, occasionally pausing to stroke the noses of horses that she knew and wanted some love. She was glad to see a lot of empty stalls because that meant a lot of horses were out being exercised and worked with.
Approaching the stalls she'd designated to today's two new arrivals, Amy stopped a stall away, hand on her hip, application file under the other arm. Frisco stopped by her side and sat down, looking up at the man with his tongue lulling out and tail swishing on the concrete floor.
"Are you John McBrian?" Amy asked, just a hint of a southern accent to tell of the years she'd spent at riding academies in the south.
The namesake of the stable came from those years since Amy had fallen in love with Blues music. Her uncle had called the stable Brookshire Acres but Amy had changed that after she'd left him in charge of the place. Of course she still had tons of pictures with him in her office but the name change had been the major thing as well as a pain in the neck for all their advertising and competition applications.

I’m like a ringleader, I called the SHOTS!
Jon hadn’t noticed his little naughty niece running into the stall of Prince. He was busy with taking of TC’s travelling boots. The mare however noticed how Prince nudged Kay who was giggling and trying to surpass it. The mare snorted towards the mare until perking and pinning her ears when she felt like it. Jonathan felt how uneasy the mare started to get and hushed her with his Gaelic tone until he heard the voice of a woman. But why wasn’t he hearing the excited tone of Kay as well? He frowned a little and got done with the last boot. Patting the large dappled mare he looked towards Amy and flashed a gentle smile. Yes I am, you must be Amy Garland right? You didn’t see my daughter did you? He spoke without trouble as he stroke the mare and easily took off her blanket showing a strong muscled body. The mare nudged the male until she finally resented to the hay net. He felt satisfied with the mare and took out the travelling tack. Closing the door after him he heard a giggle and looked to the side.
Little Kay tried to nudge herself as much as she could into one of the corners but failed miserably. The large male gave a hush on his finger to Amy with a wink until he opened the stall door. Patting prince on his neck he spoke to the pony. You didn’t see a little girl about 4’2 ten years old? Blonde with blue eyes? No? That was sad, and I who wanted to introduce her to a dog as well. Ah well, what can one do. Kayleey heard the word dog and poked her head out from the hay net. Dog? I’m here dad! Introduce me! I want to see the dog! She suddenly flashed herself out from the hay net, the pony didn’t really care but TC on the other hand snorted without being impressed of this little play. Jon smiled seeing the ten year old and took her out from the stall. Closing Prince’s stall door he could finally lean against the door looking at the little girl staring at Frisco almost paralyzed. He didn’t know what to say yet until he saw how she turned to him and started jumping. A smile formed but he called her with a pat on her shoulder until he found the time right to look back at Amy, the smile never fading.
He wouldn’t proclaim anything but soon enough released his tunes having the hint of Ireland within his tone. I don’t think I’ve properly introduced myself or this little girl either. (He tickled Kay lightly in the side.) I’m Jonathan Malcom McBrian and this is Kayleey Rose Greene. It wasn’t that hard now was it Kay? He smiled as she saw how the little girl tried to hide behind him being “shy” well it was just that she wanted to make sure that this woman wasn’t after her father. He shook his head at her behaviour until he looked back at Amy and then on Frisco with a gentle eye. Would it be ok if Kay could play with the dog? She has dogs at a second place after horses. He looked down only to see Kayleey coming out probably feeling it was ok. TC wanting to be introduced as well poked her head out nudging the male rather roughly. She hated being left out after all. Being a little princess was the thing she loved the most and he had to admit, she was one, in one way at least.
The male felt like he was being attacked with women today and patted the little gelding whispering in his ears. The welsh pony nodded as if he agreed until he went to much some hay. He stroke the large mare’s head gently until he looked back at Amy once again, he wondered why eh couldn’t truly take his eyes of her. But she was his boss now he wouldn’t go too much into the personal life. His piercing blue eyes were gently put upon her as he spoke softly as always. This is TC by the way; she’s the princess all of a sudden. I hope we’re not troubling you. You seem to have a lot on your mind right? I can see the signs, thought of getting an assistant? Even though he knew how much harder it was to give other people some of the work. He knew it wouldn’t be good to overwork yourself when you were alone and Amy looked like she was being overpowered right now. Well he didn’t even know if he had a right to talk seeing as he was only one of the instructors. He could still help, or rather he would help because he didn’t want anyone else then himself to take care of TC and he wanted his daughter to learn responsibility hence she was going to take care of her own pony. Of course he would help her with mucking out of the stall for now, but this was only because she was so young after all.
She decided that she wanted to go to the dog and with light steps walked forth. Eyes of blue were large and careful but she was confident. Sitting down only slightly she took her hand out towards Frisco, a large smile formed on the young girl’s lips as she spoke. You’re a cute doggy. Want to play? She mostly spoke out of the blue but that was how Kay was. Other then being a pain in the neck because she wanted her father/uncle for herself of course but she was a good child, she took good care of what she had and it had occurred many times that Jon would have to drag her some places when she didn’t want to. She was stubborn; she had it from her mother’s side but also her fathers. But even if she couldn’t see it Jon could. It had pained him first to know that he was her guardian and had to take care of her. She was so alike her parents he felt like he was talking to his brother again all of a sudden. But this time it was different. He had started to love her after a while and now he was her father. She usually came calling him dad but sometimes when she had a nightmare called him Jon. Her nightmares where usually about her parents and she felt like she would betray them when calling him dad, so many things in that little mind. She was just a child poor thing, but today was one of her good days at least and he was glad because he didn’t want a stubborn Kayleey today.

Amy glanced around when Jon asked if she knew where his daughter had gone. Loosing a child in a stable was both safe and not safe because some of the horses were rescues, still temperamental and sometimes the handlers didn't notice little ten year olds while running exercises with their horses. Before Amy could answer however, the little girl all but hopped out of the stall containing a rather short but handsome Welsh pony of some sort. Frisco, still sitting next to Amy, perked his ears curiously and looked up at Amy in a way that asked if he could play. Amy patted the dog's head and he laid down in a sphinx position, head on his paws watching the little girl almost wistfully.
"My name is Amy Garland but just Amy is fine, no 'miss' or madame for me" Amy said, nodding in acceptance of the given names. Looking down at Frisco, Amy saw the dog look up at her with such longing in his big brown eyes she sighed and gave in. Leaning down she tapped Frisco's haunch and the dog wagged his tail hard and fast.
Springing to his paws the usually obedient herding dog, lowered his front half, tail in the air, ready to play. Amy rolled her eyes at the playful mutt and looked back at Jon when he mentioned her looking like she needed help. Amy's mouth twitched in both a half smile and half frown before she straightened her expression. She had instructors to take some of the load off of TAEA equines but sometimes that wasn't enough when the "bad boys" required her attention to help students bring them in. That and she had to keep up with Double Dutch and make sure all of her students were taking care of. Of course part of that part of the job was where Amy became suspicious of Jon. Just because he had a daughter didn't mean he wasn't going to be watched. Amy was protective of her girls since most of them were girls at the stable, a few guys here and there. She was already keeping an eye on a stable helper named Matt Lauren but he was here to get out jail time.
"I don't trust anybody else to take care of the TAEA horses the way they should be. Some of the other instructors you'll meet around here help out when they can but they keep themselves busy with classes most of the time. Are you familiar with the TAEA program?"
That was essential for any instructor that came to Southern Blues. They had to be able to handle abused horses and help students bond with them, heal them, help them. It was reconstruction more then anything, sometimes for horse and rider. She would see how well Jon knew his trade soon enough but since Southern Blues was primarily a rescue stable, this part of the job was necessary.
"We have a lot of incoming TAEA horses and most of them require at least one staff member to help with the unloading so the students aren't endangered. Some of the horses that are not abused are unloaded between students so long as Frisco is there to herd horses if things get rough. I provide all instructors with a list of 'dangerous' horses that will need staff assistance with unloading as well as the student adopting it. Do you have any experience with abused horses Mr. McBrian?"
While Amy was chattering with the newest instructor, Frisco was on cloud nine. He loved to play. Usually he was kept with Amy because he was a working dog before a housepet but that didn't mean he didn't take the chance to play.
Amy glanced over at Frisco and Kay and smiled. Dogs and kids were a sweet combination. Turning back to Jon, she leaned against the stall of a bay rescue horse that was now quite harmless. The gelding in the stall lipped at Amy's hair and blew through its nose, ruffling her intameable curly hair.

I’m like a ringleader, I called the SHOTS!
Kay was about to squeal when the dog was allowed to play with her but got a stern look from her father. She nodded accepting that she was not allowed to squeal in a stale where rescue horses were kept. She walked out of the barn but stood at the lot so they could see them. Jon could feel Amy’s eyes on him and had a feeling that she would watch him because of female students. He could understand that because he himself was rather protective over his daughter. The male stroke TC again and thought about what she was talking about, he had read about the TAEA program, it was one of the reasons why he had come here. One, TC would probably start to bond with a horse and student and calm down hopefully. Two, he wanted to help out because of his experience with abused horses. (This was because he had surely trained five or six horses and helped other students so they wouldn’t abuse their horses.) He looked back at Amy again after suddenly watching TC. Her movements were fluent and the mare stepped to the hay net again lipping it until she munched some hay with a murmur of her being satisfied.
He spoke rather softly as he had felt enough thinking and nodded to what she had told. Yes I do Amy. It was one of the reasons why I came here. I’m looking forward to meet fellow instructors and hear about how they teach as well. I’ve trained a couple of abused horses through my life. Some from light abused to almost broken down. I’m also always keeping a great eye on my students because many beginners tend to get excited or frustrated when a horse doesn’t listen. I don’t like whips when it comes to riding either and I’ll help when unloading a ‘dangerous’ horse. He was rather casual but also professional in his voice now. Eyes looked at the rather calm gelding hat seemed more lovingly then most horses. He knew signs of horses that had started to trust again. They were happier, gentler and more lovable because of the passion and love people gave them. TC on the other hand was more or likely one of the mare’s not really bothering what people thought about her. She was a horse that Jon usually called a “straight face.” You are wondering why he is calling them that right?
To be honest the name “straight face” was because the horse never hides what it thinks. TC is like that. If she doesn’t like it she’ll bite hard on the bit, pin her ears and snort while doing the opposite. If she was pleased her head would go up and she would become a sweetheart. Rather confusing but it was easy to see what she was thinking. Jon had worked with her since she was young after all and could easily adapt to her temper. He scratched a little on her hind and the mare threw her head in the air liking it while murmuring softly. A smile draped his lips until he looked back at Amy and decided to speak rather softly again. And I can understand why you don’t trust others when it comes to the TAEA horses, they all need different treatment but once treated the horses will become amazing. My last horse was like that, she was a German Warmblood. Her owners had used a whip pretty hard and she had several marks on her. Almost broken I bought her for a pretty expensive pay because they wanted more money. Needless to say she became one of the best mares I had. Sold her before I bought this girl though, teenager saw the mare and wanted the horse so I sold the mare cheap knowing they would fit great. Still keep in contact and the mare is going magnificent.
He looked at Amy over just to see for an reaction. Because of You was an eight year old German Warmblood now. Her coat was as black as ebony and she held her head always high. Her owner a girl that was now seventeen or something was still madly in love with the mare and would never sell her. They clicked and Jon was glad that he could bring two soul mates together. A sound made him twirl around seeing Kay squeal and jumping while making Frisco run after her. He smiled knowing how much she wanted her puppy to be here with her. Not long ago when they had started their drive he had promised Kay that if she was a good girl through the trip he would buy her a dog. Now he owed her one and he had to go buy one. But the only thing was that he had already bought one, imagine that right? Well the thing was that he knew exactly what kind of dog he wanted to be hers; he had been looking for an Bernese Mountain Dog. They could herd but where great for a girl and besides, they were also playful and would protect their owner. This was probably why he was buying her one; he didn’t want anyone to hurt his child when he wasn’t around. Oh they could try, but they would fail, believe me.

Amy watched as Frisco and Kay ran around in the stable yard, glad the girl and dog had moved outside rather then stay in the barn and possibly scare a few of the flightier residents. Supposing she had Jon to thank for that she nodded to him and let him see just a little smile before it was back to business. Dark brown orbs looked over TC and Prince, finding them to be in good health, obviously fairly calm and relaxed considering they had just been moved. Signs of good treatment and training, very good. Amy listened as Jon spoke, explaining about the German Warmblood he had rescued and how he didn't allow students to use whips in his class. That was certainly good since one of Amy's rules, yes she had a lot of them, was that no student could use a whip for classes or competitions. There were other ways to get a horse to move.
"Well, aren't you just Mr. Perfect?" Amy teased with a smile, relaxing just a little. Maybe he wasn't some perverted creep here to molest her girls? "Now you've got to walk the walk. There's a TAEA horse coming in that is of special interest to me. He's not a risk gelding, simply very shy. If you're going to help students move these horses safely from trailer to pen, you should be able to handle this boy."
Amy handed Jon a file she'd been holding along with his application. It was the file for an eight year old dapple grey gelding named Aye Aye Captain. He was Amy's most recent rescue and would be coming just in time to provide services as Jon's first test at Southern Blues. He wasn't necessarily a risk horse so much as a scared one. Amy had chosen this particular mustang mix to be her new light rider for teaching classes and possibly taking up dressage again.
Giving him time to read it, Amy watched as Frisco in the stable yard stopped chasing Kay, his ears perked watching the stable driveway. Amy listened and caught the sound of crunching gravel and smiled. Right on time Captain.
Walking out of the stable, gesturing for Jon to follow, Amy waited beside one of the smaller round pens as the truck and trailer pulled up near the pen. Since Captain wasn't a risk, Amy was going to see if Jon could walk him into the pen rather then dump him right in and slam the gate like they had to do for some risks. Amy waved to the driver and looked around for Jon as Frisco came loping over, obviously sensing possible work. Amy patted his head and he sat beside her, watching the trailer with his tongue lulling out and panting heavily from his little play session with Kay. Amy smiled to the little girl apologetically.
"Sorry hun, Frisco might have a little work to do but you can play with him later if you'd like." Amy liked kids so long as they were respectful and didn't hurt their horses or other animals. If Kay was anything like her "dad" then Amy was sure the young girl would get along just fine at Southern Blues.

I’m like a ringleader, I called the SHOTS!
He shook his head at her comment of him being Mr. Perfect which was far from true. But then again, he wouldn’t comment back on it. Listening to the little test he nodded rather seriously and took the application without dodging. He read it quickly, memorising a little and felt it easier to reflect. Well, this would be fun, he didn’t want to chase the horse out, more or less like finding out if the gelding would want to come with him or if he could put on a lead rope while murmuring. Patting the two horses while saying something in Gaelic he walked calmly behind Amy only to see Kay stop as soon as Frisco ran. She looked up at Jon with a questioning look and he gestured towards a newly added trailer and car. Putting a hand on her shoulder he spoke softly in her ear. I’m going to unload a horse so you need to be good and stay quite. You can go and watch but keep a distance just in case ok dear? Kay nodded and smiled at Amy respecting that Frisco had to work. With easy steps the little girl walked to the fence and looked around wondering what was going to happen next.
Jon graced a smile and thanked god that she understood what was going on. Well she was a smart kid so he wasn’t scared of what she would do. He had the mare’s lead rope over his shoulder and let it be there until he took down the ramp. He didn’t say anything to Amy just watching the gelding from afar until he went in. Halting just inside he sat down watching the gelding softly while he murmured slow words. Spoke of how handsome the gelding was and so good not being scared. He kept his Gaelic tone low while speaking; his tone soft and gentle and he took a step forward. It was a small step but a careful one so he wouldn’t frighten Captain. He watched everything, how the gelding reacted, how he behaved and slowly took a couple of more steps forward. He let out his hand now, a couple of treats in his palm while he murmured letting the horse get used to his voice and whispered gently when he took the treats. See? Wasn’t that bad now was it son? Good boy, let us get you out in the sun huh? This dark place isn’t any fun. He didn’t make the lead rope click in case the horse would flinch a little.
Giving it a little tug he murmured gently and let the gelding follow on his own record. He let the lead rope be loose and came to the exist of the trailer. He halted again and sat down, called out with his Irish words gently and was glad the horse stepped forward again. He was wary he noticed that and shy but he accepted Jon at least for now. Coming to the side of the dappled boy he murmured again, always praising the horse for being so good and locked the gate after him. He was careful with the click here as well and took off the lead rope. He smiled, let his finger go over the neck once until he stepped backwards never turning his back on the horse. Captain was the one to decide what he wanted to do now. Kay watched her father with large eyes and wanted to clap but kept with it. She didn’t want to frighten the pony. Well the mustang mix wasn’t a pony but the girl saw it as one seeing as she was a little away from Captain. Jon signalized to the driver to go and checked the gate that it was locked always keeping an eye on the horse. Going over the fence he looked back at Amy and wondered what to say.
Finally he felt his words would be good enough and looked at his boss with a smile. Now, did I pass or not? Probably took some time but I don’t want to rush shy horses. And for the record Miss, I’m not a Mr. Prefect. Just like to have things in order while my well, niece runs around to play. She’s learning responsibility through Prince so I have a feeling that she will be asking you a lot of questions. He winked at Amy gently but was hoping that she had taken of the suspicious look soon. He had seen it through her but didn’t blame her, it was just that he wasn’t the type of guy to go on girls that were fifteen to nineteen and so on. Perhaps Amy but he wouldn’t put those words out loud; he would rather die then to tell his boss that. Heck, he had a feeling he couldn’t fall in love anymore, he had had a fiancé, once, she broke his heart and after that he was assigned a playboy. If it hadn’t been for Kay he would probably never fulfil his work at his last stable. But he was glad to have the girl and felt Kay tugging in his arm looking rather playfully up at him. What was she up to now? Dad? When are you going to buy the puppy? Her eyes were glittering and he smiled rather gently until he spoke to her without any tension. I can’t tell, if I tell then it won’t be a surprise. She looked at him with her mouth open not believing him which only made him smile even more until he looked at Amy wondering what the woman was thinking now. Was he still the big bad wolf?

Captain snorted when the ramp on the trailer came down, letting in sunlight that made him blink. The dappled grey moved back in the trailer as a big human came in, talking even stranger then the other humans. His ears flicked back and forth, his weight shifting to and fro as the human sat and kept talking to him. Shyly and with all delicacy and weariness, Captain stretched his neck forward and accepted the treats the human offered him. He knew what the human wanted and really didn't want to give it but if the human was nice...maybe...maybe he would...Captain blew through his lips and shied a little when the human put the lead on his halter. His first few steps were reluctant. This wasn't the same person that had come to him when he'd been with the other horses and talked to him like he was the only one in the world. He wasn't the same but...but maybe the other one was out there? Cautiously, Captain stepped down the ramp, allowing himself to be slowly led into the ring.
Amy watched the process, coiled like a spring ready to leap if Jon made so much as one wrong move with Captain. She had been visiting the gelding for several days after deciding it was time to actually get back into the ring herself. Since a Noriker wasn't a prime show or teaching horse, she had decided to give some of her love to this abandoned dapple grey nobody had wanted. When he came down the ramp, Amy wanted to take the lead but stayed still, waiting until the gelding was in the ring and off the lead.
Ignoring his comment, Amy walked past Jon to the ring and clicked her tongue. "Hey there baby, remember me?" she murmured.
Captain's ears flicked up from where he had taken to standing in the middle of the ring. He watched Amy curiously and after a few moments of Amy talking, started forward toward her until he was within touching distance. Amy slowly raised a hand and stroked his neck, pausing when he shied a little the first time. When he began to relax, Amy looked over at Jon.
"Not bad" Amy admitted. Captain snuffled and bumped his nose against Amy's arm. "Welcome to Southern Blues Stables Mr. McBrian. If you have any questions or concerns you can voice them now or if you think of them later, you're daughter knows where my office is." Amy smiled, leaning back against the corral, facing Jon and Kay.
Frisco was watching the new horse curiously for a moment before trotting over to Kay and butting his muzzle against her hand and whining as if he understanding the words "buy a puppy." Amy smiled and glanced at Jon.
"I think you guys have him on the run with a new dog. He likes being the center of attention" she said, amusement in her voice.
Frisco whined softly and nudged Kay's hand again, looking absolutely pathetically in need of attention. Amy had seen it a million times. It was the look he gave her whenever Amy walked him around town and they went past the pet store. If she so much as glanced at a puppy in the window, oh he would look physically injured for hours.

I’m like a ringleader, I called the SHOTS!
He noticed that she ignored his comment but didn’t bother about it. She was the owner of this horse after all and therefore kept his mouth shut. The male watched her as the horse knew her after a little hesitation. He leaned against the fence and waited until she came back and smiled as he seemed to have passed her little test. The male listened gently and didn’t comment until he saw Kay looking rather longingly towards the stable. She wanted to cuddle with Prince but she wanted also, to play with Frisco. The pony will be here tomorrow as well dear. Go play with Frisco. And thank you Amy. I can’t remember if I had any questions other then when you will give me a list over which horses I should help with, but I’ll probably be in the stall today so you’ll find me in one of the rings exercising TC. He smiled at his boss but it wasn’t one of his charming smiles anymore, they showed a professional but friendly shade while he watched Kay looking down at Frisco with a suspicious look until she turned to Amy. But what if the puppy and Frisco becomes friends? Then they’ll both be the centre of attention!
The little girl exclaimed in a rather high sound. He put a palm on her shoulder wanting her to calm down for a minute. She looked up at him and smiled until she got Frisco to follow her again dancing around with a silly manner. A high neigh told Jon however that someone was getting impatient. That mare really knew how to make an entrance and tell everyone what she meant. Rolling his eyes for a minute he looked towards Amy with a gentle smile until he spoke again. Well, it was nice to meet you Amy. I’m sure we’ll meet again. But I think Captain wants your attention. He knew how a bond between horse and human was strong as long as they started early. The male gave a nod as a goodbye until he stepped inside. A massive dappled cranium slipped out and the mare looked at him with perked ears. He smiled at the mare and patted her muzzle softly. Adapted well now? Great, let’s get you out for a quick run hmm? The mare nickered and nudged him affectionately, he gave in and showed a carrot which she took without hesitating.
He looked around and saw Kay running around with Frisco in her heels and was glad the girl had someone with her. Going into the tack room he fetched the lounge tack and easily tacked up the mare. She took the bit with a great excitement and ears were perked forward. He usually didn’t use a bit but right now he had to, she was in one of those, let-us-run-like-maniacs-mood. He wasn’t fond of that mood. Checking her hooves he opened the door and led her out. TC knowing just what was going on started dancing and neighed now and then wanting to tell everyone she was here. He liked that she was lively, but right now she was a pain. Ears twirled and she went in several circles while he led her through the back to the large ring. The long reins that he usually used where around his shoulder while he kept the excited mare in a possession showing who was boss. TC knew this quite well, she was just excited of getting out and wanted to run. So why wasn’t she a race horse? Well that was quite easy. Her long but strong and thick legs with feathers showed that she was a cross between draft and a light breed. Her body was refined but masculine and brawny which meant that she wasn’t as refined as a thoroughbred. The male opened the gate of the large ring and closed the gate. Taking the long reins in his hands he sent the mare out in a large circle and was far from surprised when she set off in an extended canter. (Stupid.)

Amy laughed at the thought of Frisco having other doggie friends to run around the stable with. The thought was amusing but also a little scary since who knew what kind of trouble they could find? Wreck the hay loft, get into the pastures, run off on the trails. Oh the possibilites were endless and frightening. Shaking her head and still smiling, Amy let Jon go and left Kay to play with Frisco. She had a feeling the mixed up dog wouldn't be needed for working Captain. Amy climbed into the ring and as she did, Captain shied away to the other side of the ring. Once she was in the ring, Amy started talking softly to the mustang, remembering quite vividly Chico, her old mount before Double Dutch. Sighing softly, Amy extended a hand to the mustang and decided there was enough room in her heart for three handsome stallions.
"That means there's room for you too Cap" Amy said softly as the mustang wearily began to approach.
Captain snorted softly, taking it slow. His last owner had been unhappy with him and left him. What if this human did too? The gelding arched his neck, hesitating three feet from Amy. Slowly he stepped forward, bumping his muzzle against Amy's outstretched hand. Amy smiled and moved forward, stroking his muzzle and talking to him. For now, all was right with the world that was Southern Blues Stables. Too bad it probably wouldn't stay that way.
