Kelly fidgeted uneasily in the saddle, staring at the reins in her hands and just letting Gambit amble along. Even after the court screw ups and their dad vanishing after mom died...it still felt like he was a huge shadow looming over her, telling her what to do and what not to do. Blake McClain was a scary man, always had been. He was big and looked like a roughed up rancher, always mad or drunk until he had disappeared. Even now, living with Uncle Rich in a small town states away from her original home, Kelly still felt opressed by his decisions and everything he'd ever taught his three kids. Maybe it was like phantom limb syndrome? Maybe...even if he wasn't there she still felt like he was but she didn't know if that would ever go away.
"It's a small town, people are always sketchy in small towns" Kelly said, glancing over at Vince. "But sometimes its just easier to get along when people aren't watching. I'm used to it, compared to my rodeo star brother and party-throwing sister I guess I just like being overlooked."
Kelly shrugged and looked up at the trail ahead of them, trying not to blush again. Aaron always said she needed to get out of her little box and expand her horizons, go to art school if she wanted to or just be a freelance artist and let her skills speak for themselves. She didn't want to use her stuff to compete or if she sold it, Kelly would never be able to look at it again without wondering if someone else saw all the imperfections she saw. It was a curse, an artist's mind. It trapped her and it felt so hard to even try to approach the outside where the box ended and everything else was.
Gambit snorted, flicking his ears and tossing his head lightly. He could tell his rider wasn't really paying attention and wanted to know why. The stallion nickered curiously, swishing his white-streaked bay tail.

Vince shrugged as well, a dismissal more than a sign of resignation. "Everyone is different; people shouldn't be compared to someone else, for we all have special skills that make us unique. Being over-looked because one skill is valued more than another..." He trailed off sighing, silencing his ranting. This was really a first; speaking so much, allowing his opinions to run free. Especially with someone he'd met minutes ago; before now, he'd had issues expressing his thoughts to siblings, let alone a perfect stranger. One calloused hand came up to rub his forehead, a dull ache starting to form there. He really needed to get out more often... "Well... I guess it's not overtly important to be noticed. As long as you're happy with the direction of your life, there's no reason to have to stand out." His thoughts strayed back to Richard, back at the stable. He really should have brought the big ol' softie along. Thinking over it now, the poor guy was putting on the pounds recently from being fed the diet of a hard working horse, but was rarely worked at all anymore. Was definitely time to pick up the pace and get back to living, rather than just existing.

Kelly remained quiet, looking at the back of Gambit's head as the tall mustang ambled along. She could feel him getting twitchy and a bit impatient with just walking alongside a human. Kelly had to admit this wasn't much of a workout for him and she would have to probably leave soon considering Jill always kept a busy schedule, even in a new town. Unless Aaron was staying, if Jill left she would have no ride and she didn't like the idea of just leaving Gambit in his stall all day. It usually didn't end well for all involved when that happened. Gambit could be just as fiery as Heart when he wanted to be and at times that just wasn't a good thing. Looking down at Vince, Kelly chewed her lip for a moment as she debated.
"If you want, me and Gambit can give you a lift back to the stable" Kelly offered at last.
She didn't know for sure if she wanted him to say no thanks or ok. He seemed friendly and Gambit could handle his weight but the thought just made her flush with embarrassment. Maybe it was the thought of sharing the saddle with a guy but whatever it was made Kelly twitchy. She tried to make herself relax. She needed to break her shell. Aaron told her all the time. Might as well start with random and spontanious like all the other people in the world.
"If you want to just run it that's fine but...I need to do some barrel work with Gambit before Jill and Aaron leave."
Glancing at her watch, Kelly found it was almost seven o'clock. Sheesh walking alongside a human took forever on horseback.

Vince glanced briefly at his own watch, noting the time with surprise. It certainly had been a while since he'd had a conversation with someone that had lasted this long... a very long while. Regardless, he hesitated quite a bit at her question, more than a little embarassed himself. Thoughts similar to Kelly's swam in his head repeatedly, probably worse considering his aversion to physical contact with other people. He didn't exactly know why he didn't like it, it was just always very uncomfortable. After much debating with himself, he answered, sounding unsure even after the decision had been made. "Well... I do need to get back as well..." He paused again, frowning at the trail under his feet. Oh how he wished he'd brought Rich along right about now. "As long as you're sure you're okay with it, I guess I could use a lift."
