Kc shook her head. Nope. Nothing in her blood lines lead to that. It's all pleasure and performance horses on both sides. Her dad was a world champ. I think, and her dam was just a open show type mare. The mare could be sweet natured when she wasn't being rode, but other wise, she was good. She's fine after the first.. oh about ten minutes or so. Then she's completely fine for the rest of the day. You could put her away and come back out three hours later and she would be fine. Kc shrugged her shoulders. It wasn't a stupid question...
Dark normally wasn't mean to other horses, exspeicaly mares. He was generally laid back, and lazy. Which, Kc found odd for a stallion, but a times, he could definitaly have some ' get up and do' in him. That was pretty much only when he had his hackamore on, and that was his gaming bridle. The paint knew the difference. Some people said that horses didn't know the difference between different bits, but Kc could swear to it they did. Wow. That's a lot of horses. Kc said with a smile. I started out with a short, fat, shetland pony named Peanut Butter. Then once I out grew him, I got a black and white welsh pony, Cracker Jack. He was fun to ride around the house, but he wasn't to ride in shows. He loved to buck in them. After him I got Dreamer. She was a really, really fast gaming mare, pinto of course. Kc chuckled slightly, before continuing. I sold her in order to get a pleasure horse, and then I got Dakoda.. and found out she bucks, so one of my younger sisters got her, because they don't like to run. And then I got Dark, trained him up, and then got Rummy.
Four.. Kc mused quietly. Funny age.. at least my sisters were. Kc said with a soft chuckle as Rummy came barreling back towards the gate..and had no intentions of stopping. Oh, Great. Kc grumbled quietly as the mare, neared the gate. Tucking her legs under her, the paint mare jumped over the gate, and barely cleared it. Rolling her eyes, Kc put her fingers to her lips, and whistled lightly. Tossing her head to the side, Rum came trotting up to them, and pinned her ears at Dark. Squealing Dark pinned his ears at her, and moved out of the way.
Grabbing a hold of Rum's halter, Kc sighed softly. Sorry. Rummy sort of has an attitude problem. As if to agree, Dark bobbed his head up and down, while glaring over at the paint mare. Moving behind the mare, Dark nipped her rump firmly, and almost got kicked for it. Kc rolled her eyes slightly as Dark came around to her other side, and stood quietly, while Rummy tried seeing who the new arival was in the corral.

I see… strange. He shook his head at the total and complete oddness and spread his hand out, I’ve never come across a horse quite like that. He wasn’t sure what else to say, having never been ‘tons of fun’ at talking to anyone… He was the type of person who would rather work for someone than really talk.
He listened to her list the horses she’d had and nodded when she’s finished. Sounds like you’ve had your share of horses too. As she spoke about four being a ‘funny’ age, Travis agreed somewhat, and told her so, adding a small, Kids can be a handful at that age. I’m hoping to get custody of Joseph so I can bring him here… Charlie needs exercise and I know that pony misses ‘his boy’… there’s no one around here who can ride him, and all I can do for him is walk him, brush him, and lunge him.
He broke off as the mare charged the fence and jumped it neatly, though barely. When Kc whistled and the mare ran up to her, Travis shook his head in awe and watched the Paint stallion and the mare interact. A soft nicker from the corral caused the man to turn slightly, just in time to watch as the grey stallion raised his head to look at the mare for a few moments before walking a few steps forwards. The big grey horse ignored the people and stallion, his eyes affixed on the mare, and he shook his head up and down. Travis chuckled, a bit surprised that the stallion was interested in the mare, but also very glad that something seemed to have broken through the horses self-imposed ‘exile’. Well… He said softly, At least now I know that there is a horse in there somewhere.

Yup. She's a nut that I can't really seem to crack.. Kc said softly. She wasn't really used to talking to people she didn't know. Once Kc was comfortable around a new person, then she was generally fine. Her personality usually started to come out after a while as well.
Ya. They all have taught me something.. in their own ways. Kc shrugged slightly. And some how they all had. Peanut Butter had really taught her how to ride. Cracker Jack taught her that not all horses were 'good' in the show ring. Dreamer taught her that not all horses were bad, both in the show ring and out on the trails.. besides spooking. Both Dakoda and Dark had taught her that patience was the key to every thing. And Rummy.. well the paint mare hadn't really taught Kc any besides teaching her how to hold on better when she bucked. Yea they can. My sisters were extreamely pain in the butt.. but they were fun at the same time. Poor Charlie. My two don't like the same thing every day.. they get bored really easily.
Hearing a nicker, Dark lifted his head slightly, while Rummy jurked her head into the air, nostrils flaring, ears pricked up. A low whinny came from the mare as she pranced back and forth, tossing her head up and down. Pawing at the ground, Rummy wanted to go say 'hello' to the other grey stallion, but Kc's firm grip held on tight to her hatler. Cool it Rum. Kc warned slightly to the mare. Pinning her ears, she settled down, but Kc could tell she was un happy about doing so. Dark just yawned and stood quietly beside Kc. No Kidding. Seems to me like he likes mares. Kc said with a soft chuckle.

Yeah, every horse is a teacher, though some aren’t very good ones. He agreed, moving to let the mare see him and holding a hand out in case she wanted to greet him. Travis liked the look of the mare, she was exceptionally pretty, and he could imagine her under-saddle, though without the bucking that Kc said she did, and guessed her to be an excellent mover.
I think Char get’s bored of repetition all the time… I try to change things with him, but if I didn’t know any better I’d say he was getting tired of me… which, I’ll admit, he might. I’m sure it’s not very fun for him to hang out with me all the time… I’m not exactly the type you’d consider ‘fun and games’. The Cajun smirked, watching his new stallion in the ring.
The grey stopped walking about when he got to the middle of the pen, as though he was debating with himself whether or not to move on forwards. His cautiousness won over, and he gave the mare a last look before turning and trotting back to ‘his corner’. It was apparent that he’d claimed the spot as his safe zone, and didn’t want to get too far away from it.
Travis shook his head again as he watched his horse. I just may have to geld him in the near future… I don’t really want a stallion, but if he proves to be easy mannered around mares once he gets some pep back into him, I may rethink that decision. He glanced at Kc. Am I holding you up from a ride or anything?

Oh yea. Exspecially if you get one of those bad horses, that are buckers for you're first horse. Kc shook her head softly. My sister got one of those.. and I had to get it to stop, and then we sold it. Kc sighed softly as Rummy stuck her nose out to sniff Travis's hand, her ears pricked up, nostrils flaring slightly as she pranced in place. Her attention still towards the grey stallion in the corral. But eventually, she calmed down and stood quietly.
Kc smirked softly back. She would get really bored with the same things, even if they did get switched up a little bit. It drove her crazy when things like her school classes got switched up, but with her riding she really liked to switch it up. Dark nibbled on the end of his lead rope, and pushed it towards Kc, indicating he was getting some what bored.. though Rum still had a slight interest on the grey equine in the corral.
Dun It Like Rum's brown eyes watched the every move of the grey stallion in the pen. Her ears pricked up as she tossed her head up and down slightly as he moved to the middle of the corral, indicaiting she still wanted to move forwards. Stand girl. Kc said to the mare, pinning her ears again, Rummy swished her tail, but stood quiety as she watched the stallion move to the end of the corral again.
Not really.. Kc said with a smile as Dark tried eating his whole lead rope. Reaching over, Kc tugged it out of the stallions mouth and coiled it up in one hand, while keeping her other hand tightly on the paint mare's halter. I was just about to work her, if you want to come with. Kc said, offering him. If he didn't want to, he didn't have to. But it was going to be one h3ll of a show.

He was pleased at the invitation, surprised and pleased. Ever sine arriving in Virginia and boarding Charlie (and now the grey stallion) he hadn’t met many people, and he was the type of person who liked having friends/people to hang out with. Sure, talking wasn’t a big thing with him, but the value of a companiable silence could sometimes be the best thing in the world, and he was one known to enjoy simple things in life and almost never turned down an invitation from someone, regardless just who that someone was.
Travis’s problem was that he wasn’t really that outgoing of a person… he wasn’t shy or recluse, but he felt the value came not from words, but actions. He’d work for a person all day trying to fix a fence or a vehicle, or work with a problem horse for his friends and might never say a word to them besides a simple ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. It was hard to find other people who understood that about him.
If it’s not a problem for you, I’d enjoy seeing her in action, I think… and I don’t want to hang around here too too long, else the grey there may become a little uneasy and I want him to settle. I can come back and check on him before I leave later... after I check on Charlie. The man said, nodding. Do you want me to lead one of the horses, or are they better of with you? He framed his question in such a way that told that he would understand if she’d prefer to handle both horses, he would know what she meant if she said that the horses were one-person animals. He’d had his own share of one person equines.

It's not a problem. Kc said with a smile, and then wrapped the lead a few times around Dark Intentions neck. They would probably be better with me.. Dark still doesn't really like men.. no offense. Kc said with a soft smile as she clicked her tongue and lead the mare and stallion into the barn. Grabbing a spare lead rope from Rummy's stall, Kc clipped it to the mare's halter, then tied her up. Dark pricked his ears up and waited quietly. Taking a hold of the paint stallion, Kc put him into his stall, after making sure he had hay, which he did. Coming back out of the stall, Kc patted Rummy's neck, who gave her a slight glare. She knew what was coming next.
Grabbing her saddle, saddle pad, bridle, and martingale, Kc carried it all out on the stand. Setting it down away from Rummy, Kc knew better then to put it close to the mare. She had kicked it over the last time. Running her hands over the mare's bodice, Kc felt for bumps, cuts, any thing like that.. and exspecially over the area where the saddle was going to go. Picking up the saddle pad, Kc gently set it on the mare's back, before grabbing the saddle and putting it on the 16.2 hand mare. Rummy kicked out slightly as Kc started to tighten the saddle. Stand Rum. You're fine. Kc said softly to the mare, and patted her neck as she finally finished up putting her bridle on and riening martingagle.
The mare danced in place as Kc held onto her reins. Looking over at Travis, Kc sighed softly. I have a feeling she is going to be one paint in the butt today. Kc said with a small shake of her head as Rummy crow hopped slightly. Kc hadn't even gotten on her and she was showing signs of bucking.. or trying to do somthing dumb.

Trav shrugged and didn’t ask again, unlike some people would, nor did he insist… he’d met a few like that and hated the way they thought everyone needed help. He lagged a bit behind as he followed her and her two horses into the barn, glancing back one last time to the grey stallion in the ring. Nothing had changed, the horse still stood with his head drooping. He disappeared once he entered the barn with a murmured I’ll be back, I’m gonna go see Charlie for a moment..
The vet technician walked up to Charlie’s stall easily, his strides long and fast. As he moved, he fished a slice of apple out of his pocket and clicked once as he came upon the stall. Immediately the little rose-grey pony’s head appeared poking over the stall door and the pony nickered a greeting. Travis held the apple out with one hand and rubbed Charlie’s face with the other, smiling as the pony eagerly grabbed up the treat and chewed it up noisily. Hey boy, just came to see how you were. He petted the little pony a few more times before straightening up and heading back down towards where he’d left Kc.
Is your name really ‘Kc’ or does it stand for something? Was the first thing that came from his mouth as he reapproached, stopping a little behind and to the side so as to not get kicked or anything. He watched the mare as Rum crowhopped some and nodded in agreement to the young woman. Yeah, looks like it. He agreed, somewhat glad that he’d never had a horse -quite- as temperamental as the mare was… he’d had some doozies, but none that he could recall that acted quite like the mare. He was a little concerned, but didn’t voice anything about it as the horse was Kc’s and it was her business what she did with the mare… but all the same, he didn’t want her to get injured if it could be helped.

Kc nodded her head at Travis's comment to go see the welsh pony. Glad that he had left her alone to Tack up the mare. She watched him walk a head of her for a few seconds, heading to the pony's stall, before turning her attention back to the mare. She was a handful, but Kc was starting to get used to it.. just slightly.
By the time Travis came back, Kc had the mare tacked up,and ready to go. And sadly, the mare was more then ready to go. Kc smiled at Travis's comment, she got asked that alot. It's just Kc. She said and patted Rummy's neck as she danced again in place. Settle down Rummy. Kc warned the mare, and the crow hopping stopped, but the paint mare kept prancing in place. Taking in a deep breath, Kc sighed and glanced towards Travis, Well. Let's see how much of a pain she's going to be today.
Clicking her tongue, Kc lead the mare out towards the larger ring. Kc didn't want to take up one of the smaller rings with the mare. Plus Rummy was used to being rode.. once you got the buck out of her. Opening the gate of the larger ring, Kc lead the mare into the ring, and then shut it. Flinging the split reins over the mare's neck, Kc put a boot into the stirrup, and swung up onto the mare's back. Swishing her tail, Rum stood quietly, but Kc could feel that the mare was ready to go. Settling her self in the saddle, Kc put her other foot in the stirrup, then asked the mare to walk out.
Swishing her tail agian, Rummy walked out quietly, and after a few laps, Kc asked the mare for a trot. Tossing her head up and down, Rummy swung her hind quarters out to the side, and tossed her head. Getting a tighter grip on the reins, Kc clicked her tongue again, and pressed her spur softly against the mare's side, reasking for a trot. Snorting, Rum went into a trot eagerly, so Kc let a little bit of slack go in in the reins. And Rummy being Rummy, put her head down and took a good advantage of the freedom of the reins.. and of course.. she bucked.
The mare bucked a few times, with Kc sitting them quietly, before the eighteen year old girl managed to get the mare's head up. Once she got the paint's head up, Kc quckly flexed the mare around, making her head bend to her side, completely stopping the mare's bucking. Sighing, Kc released the mare and let her stand. Now that she is done with that, she should be fine.

Just Kc… it’s kinda an odd name… but nice. He commented, his dark eyes shifting from her to the mare. A crease appeared in his forehead as the mare acted up a little, and he nervously ran a hand through his hair again before seeming to realize that he was doing it and removing his hand, leaving his hair slightly mussed up, but nothing too bad, nothing that wouldn’t just fall back into place in a few minutes.
He let Kc and the mare go ahead of him, waiting until they were a few yards away from him before he followed at a slow walk. As the girl took the mare inside the ring, he stayed on the outside, leaning forwards against the panels. Be careful! He couldn’t resist calling, not wanting her to get hurt, both because he really didn’t want her injured (he wouldn’t wish that on anyone) but also because if she did get hurt, he could get in trouble for it considering he was older and, in the courts eyes, Kc could still be counted as a teenager, regardless of whether or not the horse belonged to her, it could be blamed on him for not stopping it or something like that… and God only knew that he didn’t need anymore problems with courts and other such things as that.
Travis watched the mare as Kc asked her to walk, taking careful note of the horses attitude and the way she listened to the cues. He was a trainer by no means, but he’d dealt with his fair share of horses and knew a little. When the mare trotted off, Travis read the signs and knew she was going to buck, and when she did, he winced slightly, watching the horse leap in the air like a fish out of water. Kc was a good rider, he noticed that immediately, and she kept calm. Once she had the mare flexing, Travis spoke. Looks like a rough ride, those bucks. You’re a really good rider to be able to ride those without much of a problem. He complimented, And you said she does that every ride? He wanted to make sure he had that right. Bucking was never a good habit for a horse to have. But you’re not sure why she bucks, that is right, isn’t it? My neighbors back in Louisiana used to have an old gelding who would buck like that every now and then… I’d forgotten about him, but seeing her doing that reminded me… he’d learned that he could intimidate his previous owners by throwing bucking fits and could get out of work that way… it took a few years, but he eventually gout out of the habit of bucking to try and get out of work and started bucking just for fun and when he was exceptionally happy or eager to go. Travis dropped the subject at that, leaving Kc with something to think about. He really had forgotten about that horse… the gelding had been a huge bulldog Quarterhorse, sorrel in color and built like a tank… not very many people had wanted to ride his bucks, but his old neighbors had worked it out of the horse and the gelding had turned into a great riding horse and companion.

Kc heard his call to be careful, and she usually was, like any other time she was on Rummy. At least for the first ten minutes or so. Then the paint mare was usually fine. She just liked to feel her oats for the first ten minutes, then she would be completely fine to take out later and just head off and ride. Kc had tried lowering her grain ammount, that had helped some what, but not really. Keeping the mare out in the pasture during the day, and night when it was nice out, also helped as well. It kept Rum's energy level down slightly. Kc only liked to bring the mare in when it was raining, snowing, or things like that. Only because the mare had a fine, soft coat now instead of a fuzzy ball type coat like she would during the cold ness of Minnesota winters.
Yea. They are kind of hard to ride, but I've gotten used to 'em Kc responded as she flexed Rummy's head from the left, then to the right, listening quietly to Travis, who was stlll at the fence line. Finally thinking the mare was done being a b.. Kc let her stand quietly, and Rummy cocked a hind leg, ready to move.. and not buck. Every ride.. Well I guess not every ride. Like after she gets it out of her system in the morning, then she would be good for the rest of the day if you went to ride her. He had just about had it right, though Kc felt she should explain more what the mare did.. because she just bucked the first ride.. well the first ten minutes. Kc clicked her tongue and moved the mare closer to the fence, still listening to Travis. I'm hoping I can work it out of her, other wise I'll probably have to keep her. No body wants a bucker. She shrugged softly. She defintaly doesn't get away with it, even the one time she did get me off I wasn't about to let her get away with it. That would be a really bad habit for her to get into.
Patting Rummy's neck, Kc picked up on the reins, and told the mare to back. Softing through her poll, Rum backed quietly, her ears flicked back, listenign quietly to Kc. Putting the rein on the mare's neck, Kc turned and loped her off a bit, with the reins slack. Then sitting down in the saddle, she told the mare to whoa. Rummy quickly stopped and flicked her ears back waiting quietly for the next cue. Turning her back around, Kc looked at Travis. Only the first couple minutes. Then she just completely fine, like she is right now.

Strange horse. The comment was said offhandedly, not meaning to offend or anything. He twisted a little, popping his back and neck and immediately feeling the relief. He’d always been told that popping your bones would lead to arthritis, but he’d always ignored the warning… if it felt that good to do it, then it couldn’t possibly be all bad, he’d said… of course, he knew that the old timers who’d told him that were right, as always, too much of a good thing could lead to disaster.
As his back popped, the bones in his spine cracking all the way down, Travis couldn’t’ help the sudden clenching of his teeth and tight closing of his eyes as his lower back gave a throb that caused his whole body to stiffen, his hands clenching the panels tightly, knuckles white, until the pain lessened but didn’t leave entirely. It had been nearly two months since his back had last pained him like that, he’d gotten used to the constant relief, and as such he’d not been ready for old injury to flare up like it had.
R-right… I get you. I guess it would be… hard to sell a bucker. He said as he forced his jaw to work again. God, that had hurt! As suddenly as the pain had come, it was gone, and it left him breathing somewhat heavily as he felt his knees go a little weak. Only his family knew the extent of the pain he went through when his back started acting up, but anyone could see that it was much worse than his usual brush-off of ‘just an old, small injury’. The reality of it was that he’d nearly broke his back in a four-wheeler accident as a child, and ever since the spasms of ache had come and gone randomly, some leaving him nearly crippled from the soreness and hurt and some barely bothering him at all… it all just depended.
She looks great under-saddle, though. He told her once the horse and rider duo had stopped, ignoring the fact that his hands were shaking slightly. Besides the bucking, does she have any other vices?

Yes she is. And Rummy defintaly was. In Kc's eighteen years of being alive.. and pretty much riding horses, she had never come across a horse who liked to buck so much. Dark had in the begining, but after a while he learned that even bucking wasn't going to get him out of being rode. Even when he bucked really hard.
Kc didn't really notice that Travis looked like he was in pain. She been flexing Rummy back and forth as they stood still, making her work. Keeping her flexable as well. That was one of the only ways Kc got the mare to stop bucking was flexing her around, pulling her head to her knee. Other wise, Rummy could find other ways to keep bucking.
Nodding her head, Kc listened to Travis talk. She's a really nice mover, with a nice trot surprisingly, once you get past the bucking. Yawning, Rum lowered her head to where she was supposed to keep if for western pleasure, and kept it there. With out showing any signs of bucking as they were standing there. She has a bit of an attitude on the ground as well, but that's getting better. Other wise she's a sweet girl.

She hadn’t noticed… Trav breathed a sigh of relief, glad that she hadn’t noticed and thankful. He didn’t like answering questions such as those posed upon his person about his own afflictions, though it didn’t bother him much that people knew… he just didn’t want their pity. He made a mental note to not stretch or pop his back again for a few days, and knew that he’d probably be just the slightest bit sore, but otherwise…
Smooth? Or just nice? He questioned, glad to talk about the horse. He didn’t want to think about the past, because then he’d become somewhat down. She’s pretty enough, that’s for sure. Even if you were to sell her, and though the market’s not good for known buckers, she’d still catch a pretty penny. He commented, walking a little ways around the ring to be able to see the horse better, as the sun had shifted to shine in his eyes.
He was at a loss for conversation topics once more… totally unsure, and didn’t want to say something stupid or offensive, as he sometimes did without thinking.
